About this listen

Lies, love, lust and power. Bestselling author Ella Fields delivers a sexy, wickedly addictive dark fantasy romance.

All my life, I’d known my marriage would be arranged. What I never expected was to fall in love.

My betrothed was arrogance dressed in royal finery, and I longed to both disappear and step closer whenever he entered the room.

As princess of the Moon Kingdom, and daughter of the cruelest king our land had ever seen, I was well-versed in deceit and debauchery. The Sun Kingdom’s sly prince was no threat to me.

Assuming that was a grave mistake. For the ever-present smirk, irritating charm, and adoring gleam in his eyes began to melt the ice encasing my heart.

All too soon, hatred turned to love. I was captured by something I’d rarely experienced before—happiness.

But I should’ve known better.

After all, I’d been raised by a monster. And little did I know I was about to marry one.

Waste of a Credit

DNF. I'm only 5 hours in and I've had to force myself to keep reading several times. This book just absolutely dragged for me. I get the MC was not supposed to be a good person but there is not a single redeeming quality to her. She comes across as spoiled and petty the entire time. So, if that's not your thing, you're kind of out of luck because I couldn't tell you a single thing about either of the love interests or the world at this point. everything feels very bland and empty except for the MC who is just constantly the worst.

Best love triangle & morally grey FMC

I love this duology and the story arc and character growth for the FMC is really well executed. This is also the best love triangle I have read, and it’s not usually my favorite trope. It was done incredibly well and it continued to be unpredictable. I’m a big Ella Fields fan and in the romantasy genre her writing is just superior to most other authors. Give the story time to build and you will not be disappointed!

Waste of time

I spent half an hour with Audible support thinking the wrong book downloaded. Then I finally went to Goodreads and read a totally different description of this book. Either way, not worth the credit.

I listened to 5 chapters, thinking it was some kind of pre-story, flash forward, or something else. For a while I thought it might even have been book 2 by accident. But based upon the Goodreads description, I think it might actually just be a totally misleading description in Audible. And the book seems awful.

In the first five chapters (I stopped after)…
It starts with the FC - an independent adult queen, not a princess being married off by her father the king - having sex with (based on book 2 description) the bad guy and about to agree to a wedding date with him. A servant comes to update her on the people she has just had executed and their bodies are hanging in public, so she goes to see the bodies like it’s no big deal to kill them. Then she finds out that her husband is about to get married to someone else. She flys off to capture him. Arriving there, the reader is informed that his memory of her and his being a king have all been wiped and he is living as a peasant. The queen barges into the wedding and drags him off, throws him in the dungeon, and goes back to her room where her lover (the bad guy) is waiting for her. (This is when I said enough to as enough.) She is cold and completely unlikable. She sounds more like a villain than a heroine. Her people fear her rather than love her. The narrator makes her sound emotionless and cold with a voice that wants to droll you to sleep. I jumped ahead and listened to the first sentence of each of another 4 chapters, and it’s sounds the same - no jump back to a time when she was once a sweet young princess falling in love.

Not worth your time

Story is slow. Main character is awful. It’s just not for me and I would not recommend at all.
