Great Story But Performance Ruined It!

If you could sum up A Knight in Shining Armor in three words, what would they be?

Romance needs a woman's touch/voice!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Nicholas Stafford was my favorite in the Audible version only because it felt more natural for a man to be talking his part as opposed to a man reading a romance book from a female's perspective.

How could the performance have been better?

A woman reading the book would have made it more natural plus she would have had the insight of knowing that Douglas Montgomery was just coming into her own as opposed to making her sound whiny!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The end because I just couldn't take the performance.

Any additional comments?

I remember reading the book when it first came out. I fell instantly in love with Jude Deveraux and her strong women with quirky, strong personalities. I couldn't wait to listen to it on Audible. Much to my dismay, this is the first time I was disappointed by a performance. A man was reading a romance novel which is mostly based on a female's perspective. I couldn't wrap my head around Douglas Montgomery's character and it somehow diminished her strengths. She was made out to be more of a whiner than a woman that was beginning to realize she didn't have to put up with anyone else's baggage.

Emotional!

Would you consider the audio edition of A Knight in Shining Armor to be better than the print version?

Haven't read the print version, but would like to.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Except for her name, Douglas, I enjoyed the main female character. The author portrayed her as any woman would act having a knight from 400 years ago appear before her.

What aspect of Steve West’s performance would you have changed?

Would have liked to have heard the women's voices portrayed differently. Mr. West performed the male characters very well.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Love that spans the ages!
Prepare for an emotional ride, the extremes of love, heart ache, happiness and despair.

Any additional comments?

I wish the story would have continued a bit beyond the end. It's like dropping one's child off on his/her first day of school. You know they will be ok, but you're not there to see it and feel it.

Still my favorite Jude Denveraux book.
While the relationship development is a tad frustrating, overall, I love this story!

This love story never gets old!

This is one of my all-time favorite stories. When this came out, it was by far THE book that got me excited about reading. Up to that point, I was not a big reader. Every once in a while, I read it again and my heart gets fills up!

Enter the world of romance

This romance has twist and turns that will keep you guessing and draw you into enticing worlds past and present. Colourful descriptions, and characters you will fall in love with. Narration was excellent. Those of you who thought the narrator should have been a woman are so very wrong...unless that female narrator was Carolyn Bonneyman, of course. Well worth your credit. This book will not disappoint. Go for it !

Favorite book of all "time".

This book is my favorite! I love how you instantly dislike Robert and how Dougalas allows him to treat her. Her desperation at being abandoned through the wonder of Nicolas conming forward in time to her. The love story between Nickolas and Douglas, then his abrupt return to his own time.
The detailed account of Douglas in the 16th sentury and their 2nd love story was almost like another book. Of course she had to return to her own time and the story is beautifully tied up with a satisfying conclusion. I wish it were one of a series so I could enjoy the stories of the secondary characters.

Good Story

I really liked the storyline. The only complaint I have is that the main character can be very annoying at times. She's whiny and jealous and almost child like at times. I read this in high school and really enjoyed it and decided to read it again 10 years later. I still liked it, I've just grown out of Douglas's personality portrayal.
