About this listen

Tessa Dare spins a witty, wanton tale of passion and conquest, as a reformer and a rake find unexpected love.

Only one thing could convince Sir Tobias Aldridge, an incorrigible libertine, to profess undying fidelity to a woman he's just met. Revenge. What better way to get back at an enemy than by stealing the scoundrel's sister? Not that Toby finds it a chore, seducing a beguiling, sultry beauty freshly arrived from the West Indies. When the prize is Isabel Grayson, vengeance is doubly rewarding.

Isabel is determined to marry a wealthy, powerful lord and become a lady of influence, using her rank and fortune to fight social injustice. Sir Toby, with his paltry title and infamous reputation, is unsuitable husband material - but he makes her blood race, her heart pound, and her long-buried passions come to the surface. If she can reform the charming devil, she'll get exactly what she craves: society's respect. But it's a dangerous gamble. For if Toby wins this battle of persuasion, Isabel could lose her heart.

Contains mature themes.

awful heroine

The heroine made me speed this book up to the point where they all sounded like chipmunks just to get the story over with. Toby deserved far better than this obnoxious woman.

Gabrielle Baker

Great story to sum up this series. I was hoping for more on Jos & Hetta.

Very sexy

I enjoyed their journey. The main characters seemed very 2-dimensional, but they found themselves in the end. I'd read this again!

Love it

For me it was the best if the series! I’m about to start the set again. Wish there was a separate book about Hetta and Josh.

So sweet and sexy

I thoroughly enjoyed the characters’ journey toward each other, and all that they discovered about themselves. The heroine had such real, human vulnerability and inner turmoil that seems frustrating to read at the beginning, but makes SO much sense as the book progresses. I LOVED watching Isabella’s story unfold. It was heartbreaking and beautiful and emotionally layered to perfection.

I couldn’t finish!!!!

Belle is not likable at all!!! She is controlling and hypocritical! She has a God complex mixed with savior complex and she’s just too much. She’s obnoxious honestly

NO! JUST NO!

I want to strangle this "heroine," and I've only made it to chapter 5. Her constant self-rightous scorn for EVERYONE else, and houier-than-thou attitude actually make me angry.
Not to mention the narrators lisp. It's an incessant distraction. I'd give no stars if it was an option. I want my credit back. This was a complete waste because I can't even continue listening to this tripe.

Annoying Heroine in a Decent Plot

** POSSIBLE SPOILER ALERTS*** Not sure if they are actual spoiler alerts, but there is some insight in to general occurrences in the plot.
I’ve read or listened to a few Tessa Dare books and, in all honesty, I should have stopped this one after Chapter 4. I liked the main hero, though he was more a caricature of a flirtatious rake than he could have been. But overall he was charming, funny, and thoroughly likable. The heroine, however, came off as an immature, self-righteous, selfish do-gooder. I get what the author was trying to do, and why she made Bella that way, but instead of using subtlety to create a vulnerable, flawed, sincere character, we were hit over the head and she read as being annoying. I also wasn’t a fan of the interactions between Tobias and Belle’s brothers. A little friction could have gone a long way, instead, they all came off as jerks in those scenes.

I did enjoy some of the interactions of characters and the writing itself is good. I just can’t get past Belle!

In the end, there was a bit of growth for both characters, but not enough to make me glad I listened to the end. If you find yourself liking her character, you will probably enjoy the book. If you don’t like her, I’d recommend stopping after 3 or 4 chapters as it likely will not hold your interest.

Heroine ruined this book

Didn’t finish because of the heroine. She was just too much of a downer. Nothing was suitable for her.

least favorite so far

I love Tessa Dare and up until this book I had never thoroughly disliked any of her characters to the extent that I dislike the heroin in this book. Tessa dares writing as always is superb however the heroine in this book is absolutely unredeemable. the love scenes are well written and you can feel the chemistry and then as soon as they are over the personality of Belle is such to erase whatever connection there was. I find her insufferable and I only finish this book because I paid for it. out of all of the books I have read by this author this is my least favorite.

CHARACTER SPOILERS:

what I find so insufferable about this character is her belief that she is better than everyone else because of her altruistic tendencies. however it comes across as her being exceptionally fake and not true to her own self. she has no personal growth throughout this book. there is room for her to have growth but she at no point embraces her own desire, embraces her own individuality, nor does she learn to empathize with anyone else's point of view. her point of view is correct and the only point of view she will listen to. I believe that Toby loves her I do not believe that she loves him. she is a whiny b**** who would prefer to just lay there and have her husband have sex with her and then get up and leave than dare have any emotional connection to anyone. she is so cold and honestly if I met her in real life I don't think anyone would like her
