About this listen

The first installment of the popular Lesson series—featuring therapist, professor, and reluctant sleuth David Unger.

Sex, murder, and videotapes—join David Unger as he tackles his very first murder mystery.

When David is drafted at the last minute to cover a class on human sexuality, he prepares by attending a sex therapists conference, where a fellow attendee confides that she’s being blackmailed over illicitly obtained sex tapes.

Things take a sinister turn when murder is thrown into the mix, and as David fumbles his way through his first mystery, he discovers he has a talent for sleuthing—and for finding himself in sticky situations.

As the net closes in on the killer, dark secrets are revealed and inventive interrogation methods must be created. David needs to use all his therapeutic skills to unravel the mystery and recover the tapes—and work out how best to respond to some unexpected flirtations.

Is romance in the cards for David?

And can he identify the killer amid a muddle of accusations?

Entertaining, Thought-Provoking, and Fun!

What a treat! I hadn't read any of David Unger’s books before and found myself thoroughly enjoying his unique, easy-going, and humorous 1st-person writing style. His characters are plentiful and fun, ranging from the self-effacing psychotherapist striving to be successful as a love interest and a detective, to the tantalizing porn star who turns out to also be a devious yet vulnerable ex-wife and girlfriend. The pages flew by as I tried to figure out whodunit while chuckling over and appreciating cultural references, character development, sex education content, psychological terminology, and plot twists. The audiobook was enhanced by the narrator who did a fantastic job of voicing the many varied personalities. I highly recommend A Lesson in Sex and Murder and look forward to listening to my next “Lesson.”

I was not expecting this. Great mystery but so much more. It’s very funny. Very. The author is a therapist so there are self-helpish tips throughout if you want to take a moment and reflect on them. Or you can just read on as the book moved very quickly. Great characters - kept thinking one person was the culprit then another. Had me fooled. The narrator gives each character a distinct voice and they really come alive. Great fun and more.
