About this listen

Friendship. Love. Family. Best-selling author E. Lynn Harris is back with another new tale that embraces his signature themes. Zola Denise Norwood is a young hot editor in chief of Bling Bling, (the magazine “for people who want everything!") who’s at the top of her game, ruling the roost in business as well as the bedroom. Having discovered “the power of three” (not tying herself down to just one guy) Zola surrounds herself with a coterie of men: Her best male friend, the gay Hayden; her Monday night man, Jabar, and enjoys stolen nights with married Bling Bling owner and media mogul Davis Vincent McClinton, a man who chases power at all costs...Still, Zola dreams of finding true love.

Raymond Tyler, Jr., a favorite and classic Harris character has suffered a personal loss and picks up and moves to New York to re-build his life. As CEO of Bling Bling, Raymond struggles to enjoy his newfound success in business as he searches for love and meaning in his personal life. John Basil Henderson returns with a new lady in his life, and Raymond and Basil renew a friendship that is fraught with sexual tension. As Raymond examines his life and strains to move forward, tragedy strikes, and Raymond faces his biggest challenge ever.

As Zola and Raymond search for a love of their own, several characters from the past make cameo appearances and round out another E. Lynn Harris classic tale. A love of my own is filled with all the marvelous ingredients the author’s fans the globe over have come to love. Sit back and get ready as E. Lynn Harris takes you on another satisfying and rip-roaring ride.

Love the book

I loved the book and thought I’d try the audiobook but the narration was a bit rough, the male voice was distracting. I do love all E. Lynn Harris books, he’s an awesome story teller.

I lover Raymond..

Ohh man what can I say about this book, E Lynn Harris is a phenomenal writer, and he was one of the readers in the book which to me was better than having any other person read. I actually could hear his voice as Raymond’s voice, hearing his voice helped me visualize what I think Raymond would look like. This book is exciting because it is about Love, but not just love from one characters eyes, but love from both the male and the female side. In this book the well-known character Raymond Tyler Jr is still trying to find love, he deals with heart ache, and of course his famous Basil Henderson who he just can’t seem to get out of his life or ever stop thinking and smiling about. We are introduced to a few new characters like Zola who is trying to find love as well, but on her way to finding it she is going to take advantage of the power of 3, 3 different men to satisfy her needs until she finds that 1 right man that will provide her with all the things she needs. Along the road of finding Love, Zola and Raymond are learn a valuable lesson from one wealthy, successful Davis Vincent McClinton who is the powerful owner of the company they both work for. This lesson not only shows us how the Rich stay richer and the difference between the Haves and the Have Nots, but it also shows us how the secrets that we hold on to from our past can also affect how we treat people in our current and future life. When listening to this book I caught on to many different messages that E Lynn Harris was trying to get across not just the story of two people finding love. Sometimes people have to go through something tragic in order to learn a lesson, or even being by the side of a friend who is going through something, either way sometimes you just have to take a break, be quiet and think about the people in your life and the purpose they serve, and think about the career you have and the joy you get out of that career. This is a great read anyone who listens will definitely enjoy it.

E. Lynn Harris never lets you down!

A quick, easy and typically enjoyable E.Lynn Harris write. I am so hoping we haven't heard the last of Raymond and Basil. I never was crazy about Yancey B so I hope she and her Mom have been laid to rest. Crazy people!! Zola and Hayden were fun as were some of the other characters introduced. You know you are into a book when you feel like hugging (Raymond), slapping (Davis), kissing (Basil) or hugging (Hayden) someone! On to Just To Good to be True and then Basketball Jones!!

E. Lynn Harris is NO Raymond Winston Tyler Jr. !!!

What disappointed you about A Love of My Own?

I hate to speak ill of the dearly departed but Mirron Willis should have performed this novel. E. Lynn Harris' tone was quite bland. He left me yearning for Mirron Willis, who in my opinion, is the real Raymond Tyler.

If you’ve listened to books by E. Lynn Harris before, how does this one compare?

Performance was lacking expression.
