Publisher's summary

Lorina Liddel is terrified of embarrassing herself on national TV as the face of Dig Britain!, a new archeological reality show. Lorina would much rather keep her head down and her hands in the dirt underneath Ainslie Castle, but her onscreen partner is proving to be a major distraction. Brother to the castle's current lord, privileged, perfectly sculpted Gunner Ainslie is a sure bet to keep viewers glued to their screens. Lorina intends to keep the ladies’ man focused on the job at hand, but Gunner is confident he’ll soon have the beauty falling into his bed. When an unexpected find turns the academic dig into an all-out treasure hunt, Lorina and Gunner get swept up in the excitement. But when their steamy tryst is caught on camera, it’ll take more than an award-winning performance to get them out of the hole they're in.

Another Katie Macalister Romp!

Katie makes it a fun romp with believable characters and a little mystery with the bad guy being a surprise! I love how she makes you laugh in her stories and this one was well performed by the two readers!

Everything expected from this author

Typical storyline by author. Predictable but enjoyable. Narrators excellent but I wish they had had guy read male parts and woman the females rather than alternating chapters. I found changing voices of characters occasionally distracting,

I really love Macalister's books but...

I think I have all of Katie Macalister's books and like all of them because they are light and funny and the characters get themselves in ridiculous but funny scenarios that they eventually find their way out of. But I was actually repulsed by the scenario the main character plotted. I am a health care worker so maybe that is my problem with this, but ugh... I just am not super impressed with the main plot. The two characters were likable for the most part. And there were funny moments. But I was cringing at the main scenario. I don't want to give spoilers in my review so I won't go in to details. I gave it three stars because I didn't give up on it which is usually what I do if I hate the book.

Fun Story

Such a fun story, some twists and turns. Totally fell in love with Cressy (sp?) Laughed so hard at her! i liked the story, there was a little bit of repeating informmation that had previously been given, but overall good. The male narrator did a great job of switching between accents, needed a little more femmin voice for female characters, but overall great job.

Narration

Love the male and female narrator concept, gives a better touch to the story, more depth.

Better and better!

This is an excellent book to listen to any time! I was leary about the readers - not a big fan of two readers and wasn't impressed by their reading in "The Importance of Being Alice", but they chenged the accent of the main character, Gunner, to British (not good British, but passable) and that helped keep my attention. The writing is, as always, wonderful! Katie MacAlister is a wonderful story teller. I look forward to the next in the series.

Fun, silly romantic mystery

I enjoyed this book. While the romantic lead make was over the top, it was in a fun way. The smidgeon of archeology was interesting. The mystery wasn't that obscure, but that wasn't the point. It was more character driven. Nice light read.

Why!?!?!?!

Why oh why would Brian change Gunner's voice so drastically from book one!?!?! completely threw me off. I mean how do you reconsile a main supporting character having a Slavic tinged deep almost monotone calm English european voice in one book then go full on bouncy poshboy British for the second which is set less than a year appart. You can not change the vocal performance so drastically and not have it throw your listener off. I am so annoyed I love Katie's books but Brian's inconsistent character performance here really annoyed me. which is really sad because I loved his parts in The Importance of Being Alice. I know in this it's actually spelled out how Gunner's voice should have a soft British accent but what Brian did here was not soft or subtle it was a baseball bat to the head level of jarring.

Lame and Disappointing

I love the humor and style of MacAlister's work, but the plot of this one is lame. The story is patchy. I have to agree with another reviewer who was put off by a serious topic, HIV, being used in this manner.
