About this listen

In the Internet virtual reality game Buckling Swashes, Earless Erika and Black Corbin are two of the most deadly pirates to sail the online seas. And now they've met their matches: each other. But fearless Earless Erika is really just Amy - a financial analyst with little time in her life for anything but work. And Corbin is none other than the man behind the game - the programmer and owner of the company. He's intrigued by Amy, the only buccaneer to best him in this test of digital testosterone, while she just wants to take his arrogance down a peg. But soon the two find themselves comrades in arms against a merciless rival bent on Corbin's destruction - both on the virtual high seas and in real life. Only by setting aside their differences can they locate the actual people behind the swaggering swashbucklers - and along the way find that love can tame even the most fearsome of pirates.

Critic reviews

"Only MacAlister could devise these outlandishly sexy and hilarious high-seas high jinks that have virtual reality running amok. Today's world can always use more humor and, lucky for us, MacAlister is there to deliver." ( RT Book Reviews)

I wasn't sure what to expect since I have only listened to the sexy dragons and other sexy paranormal material from her...I thought for not being a paranormal at all, it was good themed, very entertaining, and a wonderful break from the other normal same old same old happy ending. Figuring out who was the bad guy kept me guessing and the storyline was new and inventive. I had to wait such a long time for any of her earlier stuff to become audible! Can't wait to move on to the others I am behind on!

Different and awesome!

I have enjoyed a couple of her other light hearted romances, but this one didn't capture me. Cute idea of being captured in a virtual reality pirate game. Perhaps I would have enjoyed it more if I played online computer games.

Not her best

If you like gaming, romance, and humor, with a side of piracy and all-around geekiness, this book isn't bad. I probably won't remember much about it in a month, but for the hours spent listening to it, I was entertained.

Cute Story

I had though it would be a fluffy romance, but was surprised by a well drawn plot with several turns and twists which kept it entertaining throughout. A good book for an afternoon listen that doesn't get heavy and tragic, leaving you with a good feeling afterwards.

better than expected

Ever wonder what it's like being sucked into one's fantasy world ? this book gives a very fun look into the world of pirates.

sucked into the game.

What a funny, clever idea! A software engineer, a "Second Life" type game, two people meet, fall in love, live happily ever after.

Except the story which could have been so simply told was convoluted and dragged along with no real interaction between the main characters. Oh, and the story has already been executed well by other authors, and even an Australian children's TV program. I could not get much past the first three or four chapters. Very disappointing.

Expected so much more
