Inspiring

What did you learn from A Mom After God's Own Heart that you would use in your daily life?

No matter how hectic a schedule I have, I should always make time to pray and invite Jesus to direct my day and that of my family's. I should always share the love of God with my children no matter how old they are.

Any additional comments?

This book is really different from all other religious books I've read, in that it focuses on the importance of mothers and their roles in the lives of their children and family. I also observed the many times that it was not too early or too late to begin sharing God's word with our children. It makes a big difference in the lives of future generation.

Maybe I was hoping for too much

This book is definitely written from the perspective of a fundamentalist Protestant faith. That's fine, every author brings his/her perspective to their work. But I was hoping the concept of being more mindful of God in everyday life could be presented in a less philosophically-specific way. The material in the book is mostly just common sense: live your ethics everyday; keep your children mindful of their faith; take time to honor the Lord. I don't feel like I've "learned" much that I didn't already know but I may have been expecting more than could ever be delivered in the real world. I was hoping for practical applications, things that can be done every day to keep my family mindful of our beliefs and to keep our behavior in line with those beliefs at all times. And, just as an aside, I think the narration is somewhat problematic. It's almost childlike in its tone and delivery. I longed to some inflection or accent to keep me from drifting off. The book is probably a good reminder of the commitment we all should make to live ethical lives but it doesn't really address some of the reasons that doesn't happen.
