But we all know that connecting deeply with our families can be difficult in our busy, technology-driven society. Reading aloud is one of the best ways to be fully present with our children, even after they can read themselves, but it isn't always easy to do.

Scripture is filled with examples of men and women whom God used late in life, often with great impact—Noah, Abraham, Moses, Elizabeth, and Anna, to name a few. They were ordinary men and women who discovered that the latter years of life can be some of the most rewarding and fulfilling. “For them, growing older wasn’t something to be denied or dreaded;” says Billy Graham, “it was to be embraced as part of God’s plan for their lives.” Billy Graham’s life and ministry have been dedicated to the here and now but always with a happy-ever-after in view.

Story
For mothers of young children, this audiobook is a lovely offering of hope, truth, freedom, wild grace, friendship, and the knowledge that they are not alone. Many moms have dreamed of life with children, and yet the reality seems far away from their dreams. Their hearts are committed, but their spirits are sagging. This audiobook is a coffee-talk from one woman who is still “figuring-it-out-in-the-mess” (Sarah Mae) and much-needed counsel from one who is older and wiser (Sally Clarkson).

You’ll find practical ideas for discerning God’s will, and you’ll hear stories of ordinary men and women - just like you - who are living by the Rule and how it has transformed their lives and the lives of those they reach out to. The 10-Second Rule is a call to rediscover the revolutionary power of simple obedience as Jesus taught it and the early church lived it, before religious Christianity tamed it!

But with that sense of exhilaration comes the realization: in order to take one's faith seriously, things must change. An encounter with Jesus is a very significant experience, and Fr. Dave and Deacon Ralph show readers how to move from discovering their faith to following Jesus wherever he leads them along the path of discipleship.

Story
"Over the last four decades, I've met one-on-one with thousands of men. Most of them know that Jesus promised "a rich and satisfying life" (John 10:10), but too many are confused about what that looks like. In fact, I'd estimate that 90 percent of Christian men lead lukewarm, stagnant, defeated lives—and they hate it. When men try to put into words what's holding them back, they invariably describe one or more of seven symptoms. But you can experience a powerful life transformed by Christ. I'll tell you how." Insightful and Good Read
I recommend reading. I didn’t take everything away because some of it seemed a little old school and I have a modern woman approach to things but it was very valuable information.

Practical
Elizabeth George does get a bit repeitive over time and this book while practical is not unique. I found that she tends to assume that you have the same sort of life she does and it is geared for married women with children. If you don't have that sort of life then this may not be the best book for you. But on the whole I enjoyed it and found it helpful.

I Wanted to Like This Book, But...
I really wanted to like this book and was undecided from other listeners' reviews. I tried it and could barely make it through the first 2 chapters. I am a Christian, a wife, and a mother of 6 kids - so I don't have a problem with her religious views or her life experience.
I'm sure this woman is nice and has a lot of wisdom to offer, however--- This book reads like it was written by a grandmother, and not a middle-aged modern grandmother with an iPhone and frequent flier miles, but a VERY OLD GRANDMOTHER, who thinks that the main way women can express their creativity to the world is by crafting and being the best at cooking.
Besides the above, there are 2 main problems with this book.
#1 - All the information is vague and general. There are no strategies, tactics, or specifics. Example: "You must be organized." Then she spends a few paragraphs telling you why it's important to BE organized. She never discusses strategies for getting or staying organized. At the middle (I returned this book half-way through), there had been no actionable information presented.
#2 - This book is written in a VERY out-of-touch way. Many of her examples are about her being a grandmother whose busy schedule consists of church and bible study almost every day of the week. I don't think most women - even Christian women - can relate to that.
Besides the fact that she begins or ends most sentences with an affectionate address to the reader, such as "dear heart," "sweet sister," "lovely heart," etc., it is just so painful to listen to. I do not recommend this book to anyone. I don't even see how it could be useful to other grandmothers.
