About this listen

Christians know church is important, but sometimes it doesn't seem worth it. An eclectic assortment of people with differing personalities, political views, and parenting styles can make for awkward interactions and difficult connections. What's the point of putting in the tough work to build relationships? But the Bible says God's people ought to be bound together. It uses words like beloved, brothers and sisters, saints, and fellow laborers to describe their mutual relationship in the church.

In this audiobook, Megan Hill answers a common question of churchgoers: What's so great about the church? With rich theology and practical direction, Hill encourages and equips both first-time visitors and regular members to delight in being a part of the local church - no matter how messy and ordinary it seems today. It is only when God's people begin to see one another as the Lord sees them that they will truly find a place to belong.

Sadly, got the job done but it cost me 1 credit.

I own this book as a hard copy but misplaced it and needed to get through two chapters via this recording. The reader didn't seem to grasp the concepts, let alone the importance of the message being taught by the author as she read. It sounded more like she was reading a book to a wall or to a computer rather than to a human being who was list intently to what was being said.
There were times where the reader sounded almost robotic as her voice tended toward similar voice intonation when reading lines that repeated phrases or words.
I am giving one whole star because I have heard worse recordings. If this happens to be some sort of AI voice recording, and NOT and actual human doing the reading - it ought to be clearly stated on Audible for the purchaser.

Great Book; Unpleasant Narration

Our women’s group at church is reading this book together. I was looking forward to listening to the book while doing things around the house or when in the car. However, the way the narrator read the text was unlistenable to me. She uses an odd, childish “sing-song” quality, drawing out the end of each phrase that sounds like she is reading a story to preschoolers. I really found it distracting. I went back to the written page. The (written) book is fantastic though. What a great reminder of the beauty of God’s “ordinary” beloved and the beauty of “ordinary” gatherings of those beloved, all wrapped in scripture. A very good read (but frustrating listen). Read the book!!!
