Publisher's summary

In the high elf city of Leogard, an elven noblewoman longs to leave her gilded cage. A half-breed former pirate wants nothing more than to escape his guilty past. Easier said than done....

Caliphany Aranea, nearly a century old, leads an enviable life as high elf King Leopold's niece and daughter of Sirius, Leogard's most famous wizard. She is expected to follow in her father's footsteps: to lead the Mage Academy and to marry a man she doesn't even like. Yet she craves a taste of life outside the city walls.

As a young boy, half-elf Galadin Trudeaux witnessed his parents' deaths at the hands of pirates. After being raised by those same murderers and forced to do their bidding, he escaped and now lives an honest life as a sea merchant and ranger.

When two brutes at Leogard Harbor attempt to kidnap Caliphany while she dreams of faraway lands, Galadin comes to her rescue. Impressed by his skills, she asks him to train her as a ranger. Though he is hesitant at first to train a woman of her class, Caliphany's hefty sack of gold finally persuades him. Unfortunately her father is not amused, and the two must escape before Caliphany faces a forced marriage and Galadin faces a noose.

From that moment on to the finale, where Caliphany must decide where her heart truly lies, she and Galadin embark on a fateful journey that will change their lives forever. Can they survive the trials and tragedies ahead to find a love that stands the test of time?

Fantasy Love Triangle

Would you listen to A Ranger's Tale again? Why?

Maybe if I only had access to books that I've already listened to.

What was one of the most memorable moments of A Ranger's Tale?

The rescue of Galadin.

What didn’t you like about Danielle Cohen’s performance?

Basically I really didn't like her performance. It was okay and If there had been a male co-narrator I probably would of found no fault with it.

The story would switch back and forth between first person Caliphany and first person Galadin.

Her voice sounded the same for both characters which was slightly confusing.

Two narrators would of solved that problem.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, it was interesting and had excitement but was too long for one sitting.

Any additional comments?

This was a fun fantasy adventure, but is no no Lord of the Rings. It was a light listen and needs a sequel as the villain was not vanquished.

Light fantasy romance

I enjoyed the book, and always looked forward to listening. Fantasy with romance.

it's good to know the type of fantasy you're getting into when you pickup this book. It has aspects of epic fantasy, with elves, half-elves, etc., but it's very 'light' in the way it's written. It's more Sword of Shannarra than Lord of the Rings, that's for sure. Luckily, I like both. ;)

It's heavy on the romance and angst, which is good if you like that stuff. The girl, Caliphany, was great. I like the two love interests, too. Good action, fighting, love, magic, swords, and adventure. Good intrigue, too!

Overall, it felt like it was a young adult fantasy, but with too much sex to actually be young adult. The sex was tasteful, and I didn't mind, but until the sex showed up I thought I was reading a great young adult book! If you took it out, I don't think I would have missed it.

Overall, a good, light read (listen).

Magic! (With british accents)

I am going to do something i have done ONCE before, start with the narrating. Here is the thing: You are going to hate Danielle Cohen or love Danielle Cohen! I love british accents! There you have it, and Danielle Cohen is a lot of things, but "gosh" she is british! So if you don't like british accents, please stay away. But for me Danielle Cohen MADE this book better. I can't wait to get more books with her telling me things in that accents, i am almost in love!

Now the book! A Ranger's Tale: Tallenmere, Book 1 is more then okay, it is good! Not perfect in any ways, but i liked it. I like seeing things from the perspective of different characters and this book gives me that. I enjoyed the fantasy element, which at times almost felt like a backdrop to this tumultuous romance, so that is the most negative i could say. The romance part has the focus to much at times, but it is not like it takes me out of the story! I just that is so big a part that it goes down to a 4 star book! Just remember, it is almost a 4,5 so it is almost a 5 star book! So i do recommend it in the strongest way!

Great Story Surprising Twists

I loved this. The story isn't a cut and dried romance with everything going the way the reader figured it world. Thank you!

On the fence with this one

A RANGER'S TALE was a good story written by Mysti Parker. I found myself drawn into it rather quickly. I was also quickly confused by the narration. Two thoughts. I wasn't sure who was speaking at times and it was over dramatized.

Not Really Elven

This book fits into the unfortunate category of putting pointed ears on humans and a human world,: so you cat call it elven. It contains nothing of the grace and nature of Elven kind, as seen in books by writers such as Elizabeth Moon, J.R.R. Tolkien, or Jackie Castle. Very Disappointing.

Danielle Cohen, the voice actor did a very good job given the story she had to work with.
