About this listen

Veronica must find and stop a devious killer when a group of old friends is targeted for death in this new adventure from the New York Times bestselling and Edgar Award-nominated author Deanna Raybourn.

Veronica’s natural-historian beau, Stoker, has been away in Bavaria for months and their relationship is at an impasse. But when Veronica shows up before him with his brother, Tiberius, Lord Templeton-Vane, he is lured back home by an intriguing job offer: preparing an iguanodon for a very special dinner party.

Tiberius has received a cryptic message—along with the obituaries of two recently deceased members of his old group of friends, the Seven Sinners—that he too should get his affairs in order. Realizing he is in grave danger but not knowing why, he plans a reunion party for the remaining Sinners at his family estate to lure the killer out while Veronica and Stoker investigate.

As the guests arrive and settle in, the evening’s events turn deadly. More clues come to light, leading Veronica, Stoker, and Tiberius to uncover a shared past among the Sinners that has led to the fatal present. But the truth might be far more sinister than what they were prepared for.

Ah! All of that silliness from the last book will be resolved…

I was so annoyed with the last book because it was going the way of a soap opera. Well, Ms. Raybourn moved the action forward by 6 months and Voila! Our favorite couple has a chance to resolve their problems. And the story is interesting, complex, and kept me guessing!

I do like Angela Masters’ narration. However, in the beginning of the series, Tiberius was hardly ever in evidence, so a distinct voice for him wasn’t really needed. In this one, he’s a major character, but his voice is almost the same as Stoker’s. I hope she can change his voice a bit if Tiberius is going to stick around!

Great addition to a very enjoyable series

I was delighted with this addition to Veronica and Stoker’s story. I was less enamored of the last book and so glad for the return to sleuthing and adventure in this one, along with the lighter tone. Great story, fun read, and I look forward to the next installment.

Another successful undertaking!

As with all her previous VS books, Deanna manages to make me smile at passages that now feel like ‘home’ with multiple ‘call backs’ utilized as ‘inside jokes’ to make the reader feel like a friend.

The bits of history were enlightening as always

a very satisfying romp in the countryside. It was good to learn more of Stoker's family story.

So good, but sad it’s over so soon.

Do you enjoy the series and every time I finish your book I tell myself next time I’m gonna just take my time to get through it instead of listening to it all in a rush. I just can’t help myself ❤️ so good can’t wait for the next installment!!!

Another excellent entry in the series

Entertaining in every way. The book presents a worthy mystery as well as what feels like genuine character growth. Hoping Veronica and Stoker can build on that in books to come.

Why Kill Now?

Truly enjoy this series. The main characters are both creative in their thinking and afraid of nothing. They travel and observe the world around them. Made for each other, neither is willing to 'give up their singularly free lifestyles," to fully trust the other . Being extremely intelligent, each knows best! Fun and open laugh funny. Full of intrigue and mystery.

Victorian Crack

I have burned through this entire series, eight books to date, in about a month. It is everything I could want in a Victorian adventure. It reminds me of Phryne Fisher in so many good ways. I am waiting, impatiently, for the next installment.
