About this listen

Rain Christiansen is settling into married life with fellow cold case detective, Daniel McKenna, and life is good. Better than good, even. But when it comes to the topic of expanding their family, Rain isn't so sure he's ready. Yes, a new addition could enrich their lives. But it could also tear down the delicate balance they've worked so hard to achieve. Do they really want to take that risk?

He'd love to brood over that a little more, but murder never takes a day off. A decade-old mystery of the missing Parker family is heating up. Most seem to think the Parkers pulled a disappearing act to get out of financial debt. It isn't before the PTU finds out the reality is far grimmer than that. It seems that Quinn stumbled upon something better left hidden. Now that Rain has stumbled upon it, too, he has to be careful that he doesn't meet the same fate.

Sometimes it amazes him how far he's come from strait-laced FBI agent who couldn't admit—even to himself—that he saw ghosts. He's done the work, learning to get some measure of control of his paranormal side. And while his relationship with ghosts may not be perfect, it's evolved into something symbiotic . . . which is a very good thing. Because in order to protect himself from the living, he might need a little help from the dead.

Rain + Daniel= Life goal

Another great visit to Rain and Daniel's life!

Married life suits them, it actually seems to have made Rain a bit calmer. While his brain still works in mysterious ways he is less irrational and doesn't get into as much trouble as he used to.

Their relationship is still life goal-worthy. They are still completely devoted to one another and their love, their mutual trust and their respect is always expressed with conviction, regardless where they are. They have each other's backs and accept the other one's quirks, often even embraces them. 🤪

Especially Daniel always knows what to say when Rain needs reassurance and it always comes from his heart.

"My point is that you may doubt many things, Rainstorm, but us better not ever make the list. You got me?"

Rain's inner monologues are as hilarious as always. Being delivered with Kirt Graves' voice is comedy goal.

"I had bought more food than necessary because we had a Kevin in our department and he ate like someone was paying him by the calory."

This time we get to learn a bit more about Daniel's mom, even though some information is being revealed under hostile circumstances. The side characters are the usual suspects, Rain and Daniel's team and family members. We actually get to see our two guys and all their sidekicks and relatives together as they celebrate Thanks Giving.

The cold case they are working is interesting. While who's dunnit is quite obvious, I didn't get the how and the why as easily.

I am not sure if there is going to be another book. With how this book ends it can go either way. I have got this series on my re-read list though so I it was definitely not the last time I spent time in Rain's head.

"Sometimes it's fun to play with fire. At least until you lose your eyebrows." A life lesson taught by Rain.

Mooore!!!

So good. Serial killers, ghosts, jerky ex-boyfriend, sugar and spice and sarcastic humor, interesting side characters. Highly addictive.
