Publisher's summary

When a stranger shows up and infects almost everyone Matt Tanner knows with the zombie virus that destroyed the world 15 years prior, he’s forced to make a decision: flee with only a handful of survivors, or stay in the mountains and rebuild.

But when Matt discovers that the stranger was carrying a letter addressed to him from someone he thought he’d never hear from again, he’s forced to reconcile demons from the past with the chance for a future with the brother he left behind.

Avoiding the withered zombies that roam the wastelands and the flesh-eating humans that stalk the night, Matt struggles to find the balance necessary to keep everyone alive and his own mind sane.

But when things go wrong, and he watches friend after friend die, can he survive, or will the wastelands consume him, too?

Another Good Zombie Epic

Yes this is another zombie book. Yes it has many of the usual tropes, the tortured main character, the drug gone wild, and the struggle to survive. However this one is better then average. Characters come and go and the author isn't afraid to sacrifice them for the good of the story.
Well narrated by Neill Thorne.

Honest Review in Exchange for Promotional Copy

4 out of 5 stars. A pharmaceutical anti-aging drug that was supposed to be the fountain of youth became the catalyst for the zombie apocalypse. There are basically two types of zombies. The Ragers, newly turned, and the Whithered. This story begins about 15 years into the apocalypse after the zombie outbreak with a ragtag group of survivors from a settlement. Not many left and we find out the settlement had been attacked by zombies. The leader, Matt, who ends up going on a mission to find his estranged mother, has some issues of self doubt, self blame and guilt because of some tragic situations they've been through. Through all the death and tragedy, something good does come out of it all at the end. Birth of new life but just barely.

An Emotional Powerhouse

This story goes so much deeper than the main character Matt Tanner. On the surface, you have a man who is struggling with the hardships the postapocalyptic world has dumped on him. But underneath, is where the true story lies. Here is a story about family values and struggle. I found myself in tears between the conflicts. I cried so much, I laughed, I hated the writer at some points for making me FEEL so many emotions. and the zombies...just wow. These are not your Walking Dead or Night of The Living Dead types. This is an absolute must read for fans of horror and zombies.

Slow starting but constant thrills

The book starts off slow but picks up speed and turns into an unpredictable thriller that will leave you wanting more at the end. The narrator did an ok job but the voices didn’t seem to fit the characters. That being said, I really enjoyed this book and will listen again, can’t wait for the next one!

BUY THIS BOOK

This was my first time reading a zombie apocalypse style book and WOW! It was pure entertainment from the start. The characters were very captivating and easy to identify with. The action scenes and use of very descriptive imagery make for a nerve-racking and exciting experience. The strong female "kick-ass" roles, the tragic romances, the unfaltering tenacity of leadership, the battles with mental illness, and the unconcealed grotesqueness of the Withered makes this story a gripping ride you won't want to end. And speaking of endings......

A hidden gem of Zpocalypse

I was extremely surprised by the quality of this novel. It had very real feeling characters and great pacing. The action was great including good battle scenes and tense moments. Many main players don’t make it out alive which gives it a more authentic feel. The only issue I had with this book is that it felt like it was simply a period of surviving. The backstory was well built but I wasn’t sure what the writing was leading to. Besides just survival what was the character’s overarching goal? This didn’t really detract from the good writing but having a goal or a resolution would have made it better.
The narration was second to none, and the voice made a very believable survivor of the zombie apocalypse. He sounded like a survivalist I have listened to many times on the Joe Rogan Podcast, the creator of the pod and show called Meat Eater. I only detract points because the plot could have had something more solid than survive and deliver this baby into this cruel uncaring world.
I was given this audiobook for free in return for an honest and unbiased review. My opinions are my own.

Tortured soul!

We begin with your typical apocalyptic zombie tale. The intro is a bit confusing. A man infected with the virus that spawned the apocalypse fifteen years ago is found outside an Army camp and brought inside for medical attention. Well, we know what happens, and this ignites the apocalypse all over again. Really? I guess it doesn’t matter. The infected does possess another secret though… The story focuses on Matt, a soldier who suffers from a guilty conscience. Separated from his younger brother years ago, not knowing where he is or if he’s still alive. The guilt follows Matt, affecting every aspect of his life, and unfortunately the lives of others around him. Throughout the story, via family, friends, acquaintances, and hordes of zombies, we witness what can become of one that loses his way. If they learned anything, it’s that nothing can withstand the will of the world. We conclude with a shoutout to Moses. Emotional

I love Post-Apocalyptic books but was getting tired out zombies until this one, I loved it. It is an emotional roller-coaster. Really enjoyed the characters of Matt (the primary one), Steve, Tara and Jody. Was upset when Matt lost it in a snow storm. The ending was extremely emotional has horrific scenes with the zombies with good narration. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
