Publisher's summary

Jonathan Brodie, the only son of Sir Roger and Lady Brodie, has lived in the village of Maplebridge his whole life.

Penelope, the daughter of the local florist, was adopted by the Baldwins when she was just a baby. They could not be more different and yet, one blustery January morning, their paths collide in a chance encounter that is destined to change their lives forever.

Jonathan soon discovers that Penelope is far from the quiet wallflower that she first seems, but rather a beautiful rose just waiting for its chance to bloom. After spending more and more time together, it's not long before their feelings for each other begin to blossom.

However, when Jonathan starts investigating Penelope's past, in order to present her with the truth about her biological parents, his grand Valentines gesture threatens to destroy any hope of a future with the woman he has grown to love.

Penelope begins to doubt Jonathan's motives. Is he only concerned with placating his domineering father and convincing him that she is worthy of the Brodie name?

Despite his good intentions, will Jonathan's Valentine Secret ruin everything? Or are two people from opposite ends of society simply destined to remain poles apart forever?

A Valentine Secret is a charming regency romance novella about never giving up on true love.

Forgiveness and love

This was a short sweet romance. I liked the sincerity in Jonathon's actions. He was trying to win the girl, but disregared Penelope's feelings on finding her family. I felt like the characters needed more time to develop and become more likable, however, it is assumed that they grew into the persons they were meant to be. I recommend this to those that like short romance and flawed characters (and who is not flawed).

A love worth pursuing

Can two people from different social classes find a love that endures? Loved how Jonathan finally "saw" Penelope and pursued her, in a gentlemanly fashion of course. She was no wilting flower, nor a wallflower. She was one lady with a sassy side. The letter was so romantic. Great ending.

A sweet romance

This story was a sweet and tender romance between two people from different classes, Jonathan, the son of Sir Roger Brodie and Penelope, the adopted daughter of the local florist. Jonathan’s father does not approve and the actions of Jonathan, although well meaning, does not help his courtship. How can he rectify his mistake? Penelope, although seemingly quiet has a strong inner core. All the action takes place in a village setting. This was an entertaining book. The narrator uses her voice to good effect to bring the characters to life.

Good listen, enjoyed her love of family

I enjoyed Penelope's love for the family she has, even though they are not blood. She was content, yet hoped for true love. Jonathan needed a smack upside his head although he had good intentions. Listening to this story was a pleasure as the narrator read well and had me seeing the people as the story went on.

I received this audiobook as a gift, and this is my unsolicited review.
