About this listen

From the twelve-million copy bestselling author of the Lewis trilogy comes a chilling new mystery set in the isolated Scottish Highlands.

A tomb of ice

A young meteorologist checking a mountain top weather station in Kinlochleven discovers the body of a missing man entombed in ice.

A dying detective

Cameron Brodie, a Glasgow detective, sets out on a hazardous journey to the isolated and ice-bound village. He has his own reasons for wanting to investigate a murder case so far from his beat.

An agonizing reckoning

Brodie must face up to the ghosts of his past and to a killer determined to bury forever the chilling secret that his investigation threatens to expose.

Set against a backdrop of a frighteningly plausible near-future, A Winter Grave is Peter May at his best.

Excellent story, well read.

I enjoyed this book. It was interesting how the author wove in the effects of climate change into a good mystery story.

Meh....

Is it poor sci Fi? Was author commissioned every time he wrote Northface? Not his best

A winter grave

Not his best novel. I’ve enjoyed so many others. The reader is very good, wish the story had been better.

Future is coming

The twists and turns in this novel were great an kept me locked on. It is not too futuristic that it becomes irrelevant.

Too political

The writing was excellent, as usual, and the reader was great. However, I did not like the author basing his story on his political agenda. It was simply not necessary.

Blend of sci-fi and Scottish mystery

Imaginative, creative rendering . Lead detective character tortured by his past and present in the context of a climate change who dun it. Well narrated. Melodrama mixed with science which is not so implausible. You will root for Cameron Brody, the everyman, and hope for ourselves as politicians live down to expectations and threaten our future.

Another great listen

If you tend to listen while walking, this will keep you walking an extra block or three. There may be a few extra twists and turns but they all tie together at the end. Improbable? I fear not.

Riveting and prescient

This is one of those stories that makes you want to take a vacation day so you can listen from beginning to end without stopping. It will rank among my favorite Peter May books, as the story is riveting, and is made even more fascinating because of the time setting and it’s prescient warning—which hums in the background. The reading by Peter Forbes, as always, makes May’s characters come to life.
