"I know what it's like to care deeply about my work and yet feel utterly exhausted by it."

Burnout is more widespread than ever before, and it's time to do something about it.

Rooted in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), this book delves into the systemic, cultural, and economic contexts that contribute to burnout, and gives you the tools to exit the cycle. Exercises and reflection questions help you reconnect with your values to find what's really important, and disentangle yourself from unhelpful thought patterns. By engaging with your emotions rather than avoiding or suppressing them, ACT allows you to respond more effectively and become re-engaged in your own life again. This book will show you how to move out of the burnout cycle, reconnect with meaningful aspects of your work, and make changes that last.

The book tries to be relatable by telling first hand stories and experiences from Debbie the author. When I bought this I thought it was more of a handbook for helping with burnout using actual ACT. I guess I was a little unclear myself on what to expect. Not only did I learn anything new but also found her wokeness a bit distracting, especially in chapter 18. For a book that I thought was to be a bit more clinical this was out of pocket. Again, I might have been misunderstanding the purpose of the book.

Some chapters you can hear background noise. It sounds like someone who is sleeping. Them breathing not snoring and it's independent from the narration. Maybe it's a dog panting. I paused the audiobook multiple times as I thought I was going crazy. After rewinding about 10 times I'm confident it's part of the audio recording.
