About this listen

"There comes a time in the life of a subject when someone steps up and writes the book about it. AIQ explores the fascinating history of the ideas that drive this technology of the future and demystifies the core concepts behind it; the result is a positive and entertaining look at the great potential unlocked by marrying human creativity with powerful machines." (Steven Levitt, co-author of Freakonomics)

From two cutting-edge data scientists comes a fascinating audiobook that tells listeners what they need to know in order to understand how intelligent machines are changing the world and how we can use this knowledge to make better decisions in our own lives.

Dozens of times per day, we all interact with intelligent machines that are constantly learning from the wealth of data now available to them. These machines, from smart phones to talking robots to self-driving cars, are remaking the world of the 21st century in the same way that the Industrial Revolution remade the world of the 19th century.

AIQ, by Nick Polson and James Scott, is based on a simple premise: If you want to understand the modern world, then you have to know a little bit of the mathematical language spoken by intelligent machines. AIQ will teach listeners that language - but in an unconventional way, anchored in stories rather than mathematics.

Listeners will meet a fascinating cast of historical characters who have a lot to teach about data, probability, and better thinking. Along the way, listeners will see how these same ideas are playing out in the modern age of big data and intelligent machines - and how these technologies will soon help them to overcome some of their built-in cognitive weaknesses, giving them a chance to lead happier, healthier, more fulfilled lives.

Great explanation of analytics without all that math to numb your mind. This was a great for anyone who wants to better understand the power of the algorithm in your daily life. The book gave me a great starting point for this subject.

Great introduction to data analytics

Not bad altogether, just not quite as in depth as I would have hoped. Good examp!we about matrices used in artificial vision

Good to begin with, not enough information about AI

Almost nothing in this book talked about AI. It was stats 101 + data analysis applications. It should have been called Data IQ, or DIQ.

Nice stories Grace Hopper, Florence Nighting

I enjoyed the first few chapters as it helped me understand some of the more intricate details about advanced technology. The audio is ready by different narrators, which is odd. I enjoyed Nick Polson's narration, but after Nick stopped reading, I lost interest. The content got very technical and too deep for me at this point in my learning about advanced technologies. I'll keep this book in my library and come back to it if I ever need to dive deeper into understanding. If you are just learning and understanding advanced technology, I'd suggest listening to the first few chapters only. If you are a developer, analyst or in another field where you need to know the full ins and outs of advanced technologies and how the interrelate, then this book is for you.

Enjoyed the first few chapters

while the book was worth listening to, I have not learned much new things. I was waiting for the core when it suddenly ended.

this book was not bad but not much news.

Most balanced approach to AI I've read. A great look at the benefits and drawbacks of AI without being starry-eyed or panic-stricken. Explains the concepts in a non-technical but accurate way.

Balanced and informative

it's alright for a very basic, somewhat outdated, surface level understanding of AI but that's about it. I expected a lot more thought behind how AI can be responsibly leveraged - instead I got a history lesson about Florence nightingale

a beginners book to AI
