Publisher's summary

RCMP detective Jack Taggart has avenged the murders of his niece and nephew, but the consequences linger. His deal with Damien, leader of the Satan's Wrath motorcycle gang, has put him in a bind and has jeopardized an informant in the gang. Meanwhile, other members of the gang, led by a mysterious figure known only as "The Boss", have been working to eliminate Taggart by destroying the lives of anyone with connections to him. And if the bad guys aren't enough of an obstacle, there are problems to be found on the force itself. Assistant Commissioner Isaac is becoming more and more suspicious that Jack may have been responsible for the death of a corrupt Crown prosecutor. With Jack's life and career on the line, Above Ground is a tough and gritty follow-up that will more than satisfy listeners who were pulled into the dark Vancouver underworld by Loose Ends, the first Jack Taggart mystery.

Great suspense novel

I enjoyed the story development. There are several areas of intense violence in the story. Suggest parents consider the temperament of young adult reader before allowing them to read the story.

Twists and Turns

Pain and suffering of children is appalling. Agony the rest of us is may never know is everywhere. Solutions only last until the end of the page.

How about still breathing?

I find the beginning of these books a little hard to get into. But after I'm settled I don't want to turn it off. He really takes some serious gambles. He's obviously brilliant. I loved the show of emotion from the men. Though adversaries, they were really just alike at heart. And snubbed their noses at "their"sides and worked together. Albeit, scared shitless during the whole thing!
I'm enjoying this new found author & this series. Try him.

action suspense

"Ah man" is a reborn catchphrase.

Jack really makes me want to strangle him.
There's a heavy hand of sympathy for the devil in this one. I'm on to the next, because each one is differently awesome

Ok to listen to

This was a story about police and bad guys. Lots of gun battles and trying to trip each other up.The reader was good but doesnt do female voice change well.

Disturbing violence

I dont know if I liked this book or not. It was a very complicated storyline with some graphic violence that made me want to stop and I am no shrinking violet. Our ‘hero’ is a very unlikable character too.
The voice talent actually made the story harder to follow since the ‘acting’ was not very good

I tried to like it..

Just too corny. The narration was what ended it short for me. The voices were like caricatures. Ridiculous.
Glad it was “free.”

Total unrealistic or believable story

I listened to the first two books this series about Jack Taggert because they are included in Audible subscription. Will not waste a credit on the third. The first was okay with some plot lines that didn't seem believable but in the second book the main character goes totally crazy and does things that just never would happen in real life. He becomes an unbelievable and unlikable character who is supposed to be a law officer. The stuff that he does makes no sense , too off the wall and he whines about everything he does... so annoying.
The narrator also has the worst character voices especially for some of the women so that also grates on the nerves. Very hard to listen to as not a good narrator.

The narrator was just terrible

I can't get past the narrator to the depth of the book... but the beginning of the book I listened to did not make it worth my time to delve any further.
