About this listen

Diverse, provocative, eerie, and twisted, this collection of Jeffery Deaver's best crime stories exhibits amazing range and the signature plot twists that have made him a perennial best seller. With nods to O. Henry and Edgar Allen Poe, these beautifully crafted pieces are suspenseful spoonfuls of Deaver at his best. Listeners will be surprised by the subtlety of some of these stories and, as always, by the plot suprises.

Jeffery Deaver's stories are widely published and acclaimed in such venues as Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine and Alfred Hitchcock's Mystery Magazine.

Great short stories

These stories remind me of the old Ellery Queen magazine. Each one has a series of twists and turns; as much as I thought I could guess the ending, I was always "caught" at the end. I enjoy listening to these when I don't necessarily have a long drive ahead of me, so I don't want to get too caught up in a book it will take a while to finish.

When they say "Collected", they really mean "Half"

If you happen to have seen my review for Volume I "Twisted", you'll realize I have the same complaint I had with that collection - only half of the printed stories have been included in this audiobook. With "Twisted", I had only myself to blame as it said quite clearly in the title description that it was "selected stories" and I let my excitement at getting my hands on Deaver's short story collection carry me away. That said, it's genuinely the only complaint I have about this audiobook - that there's not nearly enough!!
"More Twisted" had some of my favourite short stories of all time and I was disappointed that two of them - "Born Bad" and "Interrogation" - weren't included in this collection, but I'm happy to report that the ones that were are still excellent (especially "The Commuter", one of my favourite nasty little treats!!) Deaver is a master at subverting your expectations and just when you think you've figured out the twist, BAM! You find out just how very wrong you were. He's fantastic at playing into your prejudices and preconceived notions to turn a story right on its head!
As for narration, I have NO complaints there at all - every reader did an excellent job and carried the stories well.
Despite this audiobook only containing half of the printed version's stories, I still highly recommend it. It's fantastic for commuting (just be careful who you're rude to if you do!) ;)
