About this listen

Eight years ago, the December Plague swept through the human population of Earth. The infected were driven mad by the disease, becoming violent and cannibalistic, killing even those closest to them without hesitation.

Six years ago, the tiny surviving community of immune humans found a cure, and the infected began to wake up and realize what they'd done...and what had been done to them.

Over time, society began to rebuild itself. Now, it is ready to judge those responsible for the Plague. Nella Rider, the court psychologist, and Frank Courtlen, a defense attorney, are trying to establish the truth. But more depends on it than they know. They race to find the answers they need before the fragile remains of humanity vanish for good.

Better Than I Thought At First

This isn't the best book I've ever read or listened to, but, it is so much better than many in terms of character development. Overall, I think this book is good and deserves to be read even though the narrator is a little lacking.

After the Cure Audio Book Review

Would you try another book from Deirdre Gould and/or Miles Taber?

Possibly.

Would you recommend After the Cure to your friends? Why or why not?

Yes, but only to a selected few. I would recommend to readers of apocalyptic-type books who like and believe in the legal system/court process.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

The narrator's natural voice is very easy to listen to. I personally didn't care for his other voice characterizations.

Any additional comments?

I was given a free copy of this audio book in exchange for my honest review. Thank you for the opportunity, Ms. Gould!

Do they have Zombie Anonymous meetings now?

Fresh take on a familiar tale - sure there is a virus that turns humankind into walking, mumbling zombies, but this time it's curable. I'm generally not a fan of cozy mysteries and this was the cozy mystery version of a zombie story, but it was workable. What surprised me the most was that this is the first book in a long series - it had enough closure to be a standalone book and I don't see an obvious next step for the plot.

My biggest complaint was the narrator. There were times I swore the doctor's name was Nella. Other times, it sounded like Noah. Or Nolla.

Excellent

This book would an excellent story line for a television series. If I were the author I would submit it .

Scary to think about

This book has lots of new thinking on the subject of zombies and end of the world scenarios. I definetly enjoyed my time reading this book.

Outstanding!

This is the first zombie apocalypse book that I have ever read that had a cure and what happened afterward. It was awesome! The narrator was excellent! A must read!

Great idea & great book!

Great read! So nice to read a zombie/ plague story that has a cure! I would read another book by this author.
The humanity of the character was beautiful. Nella's ability to love & forgive and make others do the same was refreshing. Frank was a great character as well.
Narrator was great. Did all of the voices & accents very well.

Great Story

I loved the story. I had read the story a long time ago. I did not enjoy the way the heroine is portrayed in the performance. She came a cross through the voice as a breathy, almost damsel in distress voice. The voice actor did fine with everyone else, but not with her. Nella is a strong, female character and Miles Taber didn`t get that across.

A different take on the zombie apocalypse.

Any additional comments?

This book was refreshing because it takes place years after the infection and when people have been cured and how life is moving on after that. It's a different perspective on how the world would work after an outbreak of infection turning most of us into zombies. It deals with prejudice and crime and drama in a new, difficult world.

One of the BEST Zombie Stories out There

What made the experience of listening to After the Cure the most enjoyable?

The experience of the narrator's voice (Miles Taber) gives this story a wonderful depth. He sounds like a born story-teller. Pausing just right, for the right amounts of time - he made me wish to listen to this story indefinitely. Excellent choice to narrate this book. ----------- Taking a zombie event to the next level - finding a 'cure' - was truly a mind blowing event. This book is an incredibly well thought out story about the aftermath of horrors beyond imagination. Deirdre Gould had me shaking in my socks. If prone to nightmares I would have been afraid to go to sleep. It was everything ANYONE could ever want out of a Zombie book - and more.
