Hot Police Officer, MMA Fighter, Sweet Jerk?
Jack and Chrissy have known each other pretty much their entire lives. Jack is the best friend of Chrissy's brother Slade (seriously?) and next door neighbor. Chrissy however has been gone from her small home town in Florida for 11 years going to college, medical school and then traveling with organizations similar to Doctors without Borders, she has gone to many many out of the way places all over the world. She is now 29 years old and returns home to bail her idiot brother out of jail. She has a seriously crappy day, gets pulled over by Jack and accidentally punches him in the nuts. So, basically the book starts out really funny. There are times of good humor, but it isn't that funny throughout.
Jack has an instant reaction to Chrissy once he realizes it is her. He is protective over her and always has been. There are some old hurts that eventually get put to rest between Jack and Chrissy and Chrissy and her brother Slade. Slade is also an MMA fighter but is making quite a few poor/dangerous choices at present to Chrissy stays on to help sort him out. Chrissy is reluctant and unsure of Jack's true intentions. Jack is bossy, hot, alpha and yet kind, sweet and only has her best interest at heart.
There are parts of this book i found a bit rushed and lacking. The story was fine, not a new concept, not a bad story but not great. It is told from both POV's which is always a plus. Chrissy is a bit head strong sometimes to her detriment.
This is generally a light read, nothing HUGE and horrible, there are some past secrets revealed that deal with domestic violence but nothing horribly graphic. Also a current time issue with secondary characters.
There was an epilogue but not a great one. A nice read, no major issues, just didn't have that special something to make it a great.

Against the Cage
There is something about Sidney Halston's writing that just clicks with me. She introduces real characters with real flaws and puts them in real situations that I can grow from reading about and implement these lessons into my own life. Sidney Halston's books aren't just merely entertaining (however they really are entertaining), they are poignant and meaningful.
Against the Cage is no different. Chrissy has experienced loss and suffers from a lot of guilt inflicted by her brother. She spends a lot of time and mind space trying to make things right between the 2 and it's because of this that she is back in her hometown and trying to make things right before getting back to her regularly scheduled life. This is when she reconnects with someone from her childhood.
My favorite character was Chrissy. Not only is she super funny, she is also very resilient and tough. I loved her in this book.
Although I have read this book, when I saw it in Audible and wanted to revisit this story through narration.

Great story, Great Romance, Good Narrator. I like how the author told a story and gave our MMA/Hero a personality instead of making him just the same ol manwhore that seems to be the trend with the MMA male leads. I can't wait to listen to the next book in this series.

Good Read
I liked the story but the main character, "Chrissy" was annoying. I'm not sure if it was the narrator's fault but she bugged me.

3.5 STARS - IT WAS GOOD BUT THAT'S IT
This was a good easy-going listen that had a bit of everything... light humor, angst between siblings, passion and romance between old friends, drama as the heroine is conflicted and in turmoil with her emotions which results in a traumatic event and there's some dirty talk which leads to some lack lustre sex.
It was all enjoyable and entertaining but I don't think I connected with the heroine because there was no pleasing her and her constant disapproval of what Jack (the sexy hero) and Slade (her brother) were doing got boring. There were good one liners and playful banter, Jack and Slade were both likeable characters and a really dynamic one that stood out was Drogo Jack's unsociable but very funny tiny little dog. But this is more an anti MMA listen than the norm.
Worth a credit? Dual POV's an ok narrator. This wasn't what I was expecting, no bad boys, however it was an enjoyable listen so I guess it's creditworthy.

Loved the characters AND THE STORY!!!
Very good story. I am very much enjoying Audiobook since my hysterectomy back in February and naturally I was drugged with pain killers so much that I needed some kind of book...but my eyes would go crossed trying to actually READ!!! LOL!! More expensive yes...but I am hooked...cant wait to download this next book in series!!!

We are introduced to Chrissy (a small town girl who left to escape her demons) coming home to her small town and colliding with her brother’s best friend, Jack. It has been over a decade since she has seen him. She was the pesky little sister who bothered her brother and Jack, but returns as the stunning doctor who Jack can’t leave alone.
This book is full of sarcasm, laughter, life lessons, as well as a tempting cop by day/occasional MMA fighter alpha male, who turns Chrissy into a lusting school girl. Their story definitely ends in a HEA with the drama that envelopes them.
As well as this being a good listen with a narrator who portrays both leads very well, you get a scope into the next leads of the second book (Slade and Jessica).
