About this listen

At 19 years old, college student Josie Stratton was kidnapped by a madman and held shackled for 10 months in an abandoned warehouse before she finally escaped her hellish prison.

Eight years later, when the body of a young woman is found chained in the basement of a vacant house, Cincinnati Police Detective Zach Copeland is instantly reminded of the crime committed against Josie Stratton. Zach was just a rookie on the perimeter of that case, but he's never forgotten the traumatized woman with the haunted eyes.

As more information emerges, the crimes take on an even more sinister similarity. But Josie's attacker died by suicide. Does the city have a copycat on its hands? A killer who picked up where the original perpetrator left off? Or are they facing something far more insidious?

Josie has spent the last eight years attempting to get her life back on track, but now there's a very real chance she could be the unknown suspect's next target. As Zach vows to keep her safe, and Josie finds herself responding to him in a way she hasn't responded to any man in almost a decade, the investigation takes on an even more complex edge of danger.

As past and present collide, Josie and Zach are thrust toward a shocking and chilling truth. A revelation that threatens not only Josie's life, but everything she's been fighting so desperately to reclaim.

It’ll keep you guessing until the very end

I’ve been on a major suspense kick lately, and Mia Sheridan’s latest definitely fit the bill. Equal parts police procedural, dark thriller, and romantic suspense, Sheridan delivers a story filled with twists and turns that I never saw coming. Expertly performed by Callie Dalton and Teddy Hamilton, I couldn’t stop listening, either. As a young college student, Jodie Stratton was kidnapped and imprisoned for ten long months. Eight years later, a copycat killer has emerged, and Detective Zach Copeland is back on the case. It’s not your typical love story, so Where the Blame Lies requires some trigger warnings for torture, sexual assault, and abuse. This story might not be for everyone, but for those who are up for it, be prepared for an intense story of strength, perseverance, and justice that’ll stick with you long after you finish. —Michael C., Audible Editor

I try to always go in blind to book, it makes it more I don’t know entertaining. It is just how I like to listen. Anyways this book threw me for a loop.

At first, I didn’t know if the narration of Josie was going to work for me but once I got into it I got it. Callie is a pretty great narrator after what I just listened to I am a fan for life. Obviously they picked just the right narrators for this book. I mean Teddy was totally Zach.

This isn’t a book for the faint of hearts, the subject matter is disturbing and it had my heart racing a few times. I thought I knew who it was but I didn’t. I mean I REALLY thought I knew!!
I didn’t expect to tear up or even have a few of the watery buggers fall. The selflessness, the strength I don’t know that I could have done any of it. Great book, incredible story, and wonderful characters.

I have so been waiting for a good book. After a long line of *meh* this was refreshing. I cried and loved Josie. I am ambivalent about Cooper/Charlie. In a way, I couldn't be mad at him. He found a way to stick it the whole broken system that did not protect him when he couldn't protect himself. Believe me I know that's not fiction. I know first hand there are TODAY people who are allowed to have children that shouldn't. Zack was the definition of the perfect man. Great story! I was invested! Going straight into next one same author.

This was a great listen, sometimes it was a bit tough though.
Josie had been kidnapped at 19, brutally treated for 10 months, chained to a wall, raped, gave birth alone, starved. Horrible horrible thoughts. She escapes, her captor is dead. Nine years later there is a copy cat? Not everything is what it seems in this thriller. The heartache that Josie must endure over and over could gut you, she really suffered. She also learns to overcome. The narration was excellent.

I had such mixed emotions while listening to this book. The story is both heartbreaking and disturbing, it could also be a trigger for anyone who has experienced abuse, but I also found it inspiring. It’s inspiring because it shows how one can overcome the horrible things that’s happened to them with the support of the people around them and one’s own inner strength. How if one looks deep enough and is determined enough we can overcome the things that have happened to us and be stronger than we’ve ever known. It proves that even in the dark, we can find light.

Good book about love and strength

OMG!! What a book. I couldn’t stop listening to this book. It was so exciting and intriguing. It had twists and turns. It was amazing story. I have told so many people if this book. I loved the two narrators. They told this story with so many different voices. They portrayed each character with different voices. They are fantastic.

So I was a little afraid to read this because of the of the darkness and tragedy that Josie endured. It was a little hard to listen to but I started rooting for her right from the start. I could not figure out who the kidnapper was for the life of me and I usually get this right away. That's probably what I loved most about this book. it's definitely a hanging off the edge of your seat, nail biting kind of story that you won't be able to stop listening to. In addition to that, I absolutely loved the love story between Zach and Josie. It wasn't an instant or uncomplicated love. It was a real life kind of love. This is a definitely must read!

I like most of the books that I listen to on Audible's, but I absolutely LOVED this one. The storyline was amazing with twists and turns that you most likely won't see coming. The narration was just as good as the book and only added to it. Now they just need to make this book into a movie!!!

Exceptional!
