About this listen

From USA Today best-selling author Andrew Watts and Dale M. Nelson.

In a world where artificial intelligence offers unlimited power, government spies and tech giants fight a ruthless battle to come out on top.

When an undercover Mossad agent is killed on a private Caribbean Island, the death sets off alarm bells in Washington, Tel Aviv, and Moscow. The island is owned by Guy Hawkinson, the controversial CEO of Hawk Enterprises, and member of one of America’s most powerful family dynasties.

Within hours of the agent’s death, multiple agencies set new plans in motion.

Israeli Intelligence Officer Ava Klein is ordered to Washington, DC. Tasked with salvaging their operation, she’ll need to infiltrate the Hawkinson’s inner circle.

To beat Mossad to the punch, CIA Officer Colt McShane must steer clear of Ava - a former love interest - and recruit a fresh face with no former ties to the intelligence community: a young female veteran who is just finishing up a master's degree in machine learning.

And a Russian SVR chief has agreed to provide counterintelligence support for the Hawkinsons - at a price.

Each side is playing the world’s most dangerous game of espionage, attempting to win the ultimate technological victory. But with foreign agents and Hawkinson private security violently eliminating threats, any false move will be deadly.

Confusing but good

What do you expect with a spy novel? Twists and turns, reveals (but not quite), and lots of motivations for actions (there is no 100 percent evil or good in anyone, any organization, or any country). Watts and Nelson have delivered yet again with the second novel of The Firewall Spies series. After rereading several sections, I'm still not sure that I understand the entire story, but the characters I have grown to care about are still living to continue to the next book. I also enjoyed Michael Wolfe's style of narration.

Excellent action-packed thriller!

This review of the audiobook is an update to my original review of the eBook. When I finished reading Firewall, I wondered where the next story in the series might go. Well, Agent of Influence has answered those questions. This book is just as action-packed as Firewall and introduces a few new characters sure to bring a smile to your face. Once again, the authors take the time to fully develop the characters and the story all while keeping you on the edge of your chair with action and intrigue. Now I’m faced with my original question Where will the third story go, and how will karma be met out on those deserving it the most? Michael Wolfe does an awesome job narrating Agent of Influence by bringing each character to life. I received a review copy of this book/audiobook from the publisher and chose to provide my review.

Continuation

The plot continues to grow and thicken as AI plaques the world with its ambitious one world government elitist. How and who will win the war is the question.

Brilliant Technothriller!

Agent of Influence the 2nd in The Firewall Spies series is a brilliant technothriller. Very entertaining. I only wish the narration was better and it didnt sound like someone was reading news. Cant wait for the 3rd book in the series.

AI Influence

An intriguing story of AI development & the race to be in control of it. Deception, espionage & manipulation are top priority. An exciting & nail biting tale.

Dialogue

Going between two people talking .. instead of saying she said he said called out names and it was dry when only two people were talking.

An OK thriller focused on AI

I thought the book was pretty good, but a bit confusing at times. I think the author could have done a better job with character development. Without a clearer understanding of the characters and their personalities, I wasn't always sure who was talking and what side they were on or their role in the book. Eventually I caught on, but better character development would have enhanced my enjoyment of the novel. The author may have done character development in a prior book, but it didn't carry through to this book and it's been many books since I've listened to the first one. There were multiple intelligence agencies involved from different countries and I wasn't always sure why. Generally I kept up with the story, but it was difficult at times. The narrator was OK. A little radio announcer-ish at times. And his Russian accent was distractingly bad. The narrator certainly demonstrated an enthusiasm for rolling his Rs, but it didn't sound Russian to me at all.
