Publisher's summary

Saving the world was only the beginning....

Detective Jimmy Black's life as an accidental crime lord and Vampire Master of Charlotte has him longing for the days when the bad guys had neon signs above their heads and a couple of well-placed bullets won the day. Now he spends more time balancing books than kicking butts, and that doesn't make for a happy vampire.

When a missing person case lands in the lap of Black Knight Investigations, Jimmy and his partner, Greg Knightwood, jump happily back into action - until their missing person rises as an uncontrollable vampire and all signs point to a supernatural coup orchestrated by an unknown vampire of immense power. With the case going sideways, more missing girls, and a new cop in town way too curious about Jimmy's perennial youth, life in Charlotte is about to get interesting again.

Great series

Have liked this series from the beginning and it seems to be getting better. Characters are very likable and developed. Story lines move alone and change, but stay true to our protagonists. Generally don't like new narrators, especially this far alone in the series, but Joe Hempel did a really good job.

Welcome back Black Knight Investigations.

It has been two long years since Jimmy and Greg were featured on Audible. This story picks up 6 months after Jimmy killed Lilith, actually Abby killed her. He is still getting familiar with the new gig of Master Vampire of the City. Someone is draining humans of blood and making vampires without permission. As master vampire of the city, it is Jimmy’s duty to resolve the problem. He cannot have blood thirsty young vamps on lose in the city. Jimmy questions his involvement in criminal activities. Does that make him a bad man?

Evidence points to the morlocks, a vampire group that lives in the tunnel. As usual when things are pointing in a direction, that is not necessarily where your answer lies. He and Grey discovers vampires which lead an alternative lifestyle. Who would have thought hippie like vampires with an charismatic leader or a vampire pursuing an education to be a smart leader.

Grey and Jimmy follow the leads giving true death to the newly turned vampires with blood lust. Without the bodies of the newly turn vampires, Sean, Sabrina’s partner becomes suspicious of Jimmy. After a life and death experience with a new vamp, Sean is then added to the roster of police in the know about vampires. Jimmy learns that Excalibur is always a weapon to be carried not stored in the closet.

Leads take them to the bar Angel, formerly owned by Lilith, were they discover the answers to who, what, when and how questions. Making sure everyone will be as safe as possible, our team takes the fight to the bad guys. Of course, by this time Jimmy has showed his stuff in a couple of fights. This one does not disappoint.

I have followed Jimmy and Grey from the first novel. I have seen them develop past their insecurities and become strong leaders. To all the Knight fans like me this story does not disappoint. I just hope the next in the series will be in a shorter time span. Two years is a long time to wait.

Great Story

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I really enjoyed the narrator, but they changed the narrator from the previous books which threw me off a little. The narration was pretty good, but I had a hard time telling the different characters apart by their voice (mostly Jimmy and Greg). I wish the narrator had listened to the previous books so he could have some idea what Greg originally sounded like. I am not opposed to changing narrators between books because Bubba the Monster Hunter did that pretty seamlessly, but like I said, I had a hard time telling the two characters apart. Fantastic book, pretty good narration, and I’ll definitely keep listening though.
