About this listen

Six short stories set in the worlds of Quincy Harker, Demon Hunter, Bubba the Monster Hunter, and The Dead Old Ladies Detective Agency from award-winning author John G. Hartness!

Hammer Time—What happens when Jo Henry first takes up her legendary great-grandfather John Henry's nine-pound hammer? Guest starring Quincy Harker!

Bubba Dooby Doo, Where Are You?—Bubba and Skeeter investigate a haunting at a ski resort, but there's more going on than meets the eye, and ulterior motives, too!

Family Reunion—What happened the first time Dracula and Van Helsing saw each other after the legendary events in Bram Stoker's novel?

Walk the Dinosaur—A brother hunter is hurt, and there's a monster in the desert, so Bubba has to head west to save the day. Or night. Or at least blow something up!

Rebirth—Lila Grace learns a lesson about forgiveness when a spirit asks her to look in on a grieving widower, one of Grace's biggest tormentors through her whole childhood . . .

Hazard Pay—Meet Jake and Bernie, the disaster recovery specialists who get called in for the really nasty jobs. It's Jake's first day on the job, and he's about to learn what his new gig really entails. Or entrails.

Monster mayhem- but watch for repeats

On the plus side: the shorts are clearly labeled in the Table of Contents, and five of the six are narrated by the excellent James Anderson Foster. I prefer the Bubba and Quincy Harker stories when they’re short and get right to the monster hunting point, so this was a good enough collection for me.

On the down side: at least half of the stories are available in other collections and full enjoyment may depend on whether you’re familiar with the series in which these shorts take place.

1. Hammer Time, the longest at 52 min, is available in the Quincy Harker short story collection
2. Bubba Dooby Doo, Where Are You? It’s elementary, my dear Bubba as suspects are unmasked
3. Family Reunion, Quincy’s uncle Dracula in the good/bad ole days
4. Walk the Dinosaur, Chimichanga! Classic Bubba
5. Rebirth, my least favorite story and narrator, the story got lost in the moral
6. Hazard Pay, a day in the life of a cleanup crew in the Bubba and QH universe
