About this listen

Human Lauren has a protective streak a mile wide and one immediate goal in life - get her best friend out of an abusive household. If that involves a little bat-based redecorating, so be it. Unfortunately - or fortunately - a certain sexy-as-hell cop breaks up the fight before she has a chance to really get going.

Grayslake police officer Van Abrams is too hot for his own good, and his handcuffs make all those wonderful places tingle. Too bad he, you know, arrested her and stuff. But then he becomes overbearing and commanding. Suddenly Lauren finds herself in his arms, in his bed, and mated to his werebear butt. What's up with that?

Werebear Enforcer Van Abrams doesn't want anything to do with humans. He's got reasons, and they're damn good ones. He doesn't need to explain himself to anyone, especially the curvaceous, gorgeous human Lauren. Then, his bear decides Lauren is his mate and Van's anti-human feelings abandon him. He still hasn't figured out if that's a good thing. Of course, when danger rolls in from Boyne Falls and joins with a powerful prick from Grayslake, Van realizes that, human or not, Lauren is his. Van hopes he can kill their enemies and still make it home for dinner.

I found this story to be quite entertaining and interesting. The author had a wonderful way of describing the characters and the events unfolding. I enjoyed listening to the book and would definitely recommend it. I started with book two in the series by mistake however it seems to be able to be a book that can be a standalone. Now I’m going to have to listen to the first book in the series.
The narrator does a great job with the telling of the story. She does a great job with the characters and voices of each character making it easy to distinguish between the characters. I will definitely be checking out some of the other stories she narrates.

Interesting story!

Love this series but hate that Book 2 left me hanging. So what was her surprise??!!

CK never disappoints with a cute shifter story with the hottest sex scenes in black & white - yummmm!

Grrrrr!!!

shifters, romance, abusive-spouse

There's a huge difference between spousal abuse and good natured swats to the behind, and this story makes that perfectly clear. True, it's her best friend who married the physically abusive mayor, but Lauren kept trying to rescue her. As a human, she was a real problem for the shifter Sheriff who hated humans for most of his life only to discover that this one is his mate! The story moves fast and holds interest, but it is a HEA, so we do know the ending. I really loved it!
I need audio, and Kendall Taylor does well.

I love the Gryslake books and having them in audible makes it even better. The narrator is great, hope she keeps doing these.

Great story. I really enjoyed this one. Though I must say that I had some issues with the constant back and forth that Lauren displayed about her relationship with Van. Van was all in from the word go. Lauren kept pulling herself back from him. Other than that, I enjoyed it. The author sis a good job with writing this one and I'm looking forward to the next one. The narrator did a splendid job bringing the character and story another level of life. Well done to both author and narrator.

Great Story!!!!

Love everything about the whole series. Each book is very well done individually and each romance itself ends with a happily ever after. The story arc that goes through the whole series is very well done and wrapped up neatly in the last book. The narrator is amazing and you can really tell the difference in all of the characters and their personalities..

The whole series is very well done

It was better than the first in my opinion. Was filled with excitement, smokin hot scenes, love, deception and much more.

Really enjoyed this one

Captaving story

I was really enjoying this book right up until we are told that the heroine will be killed unless she ties herself forever to a bear. I just can’t get past the fact that the romance part of the book was based on her potential mate telling her, ‘accept us and mate a bear, or we will kill you, sorry but those are really your options’. Even if the heroine had already realised, through some sort of internal dialogue that she was in ‘insta love’ or something, things wouldn’t feel so coercive, controlling or threatening. Instead she only discovered the love aspect after she knows if she doesn’t mate she will be murdered.
No actual sex seems to be some sort of justification for a true lasting relationship where they value each other ( which is probably good, because otherwise she will be murdered).
This author writes so well and I love shifter books, just please, enough of the rediculous notion that woman are okay to be locked up, threatened with murder and will happily understand that this is reasonable behaviour that’s expected of women if they want to find true love.

Very weak storyline
