About this listen

All of Us is a riveting thriller with six compelling protagonists - who all share one body.

Though legally she is Carolyn Grand, in practice she is Martha, a homemaker who cooks and cleans for her "family", Victoria, a put-together people person, Serena, a free spirit, Kirk, a heterosexual man, Eleni, a promiscuous risk-taker, and Tina, a manifestation of what is left of Carolyn after years of childhood sexual abuse.

As they jockey for control of their body, all the personalities also work together to avoid being committed to a psychiatric facility. But Carolyn's tenuous normal is shattered when Hank Grand, the man who abused her and leased her out to pedophiles, is released from prison. Soon he begins stalking her, bringing back painful memories for all of the personalities.

When Hank is murdered in a seedy hotel room, Carolyn is immediately a prime suspect. But the man has other shady dealings, and the burden of proof weighs heavy on the police - especially when, propelled by demons of his own, one of the detectives assigned to the case finds his way into Carolyn's very solitary life.

Insanely good story.

Considering how little is known about Disassociative Identity Disorder, it's immediately obvious that the author did loads of research to be as close to medically accurate as possible. The identities are all their own distinct, well rounded characters. the voice acting was amazing, each character having their own distinct voice. I had no idea what to expect going into this story, but the murder mystery had me on the edge of my seat, and I listened to the whole book in one sitting.
Just a warning for those planning to listen: this book has very mature themes around mental health, and brief depictions of child abuse and pornography.

very unique and clever

I really enjoyed the books. The performance was amazing! I love the way she interchanged between all of the personalities.

Shoulder shrug

There was too much Babel. Not enough highs in the book to keep me interested. It took me a long time to finish this book. Because it was boring. It’s extremely predictable. Each personality, didn’t have enough personality.

Difficult to finish

I understand dissociation. I understand dissociative identity disorder, even a fictional version of it's portrayal should have been much better than this one. I kept waiting for something to really happen psychologically. It all just fizzled out by the end. Not a very good listen based on the lack of true story and plot. The performance was good- just the story was severely lacking.
