About this listen

Meet Katie Reid, a young woman with a good job and a good life, until she discovers it was all a lie. Now, her desperate search for the truth begins and it will change her forever.

A past revealed. A vengeance unleashed.

Compelled to dig into a past no one wants to relive, Katie soon turns to Detective Marshall Avery. He is the only one willing to give her the resources she needs to find answers, but those answers could come at a steep price. When her search breathes new life into an old monster; one who has left a trail of innocent blood in his wake; it is too late to turn back.

The monster is again unleashed and the FBI must be called upon. Special Agent Nick Scarborough finds himself entangled in a decades-old investigation that has now placed Katie's life in great danger. Katie's desire for retribution has already cost her dearly. So when the tables are turned, will Detective Avery be able to keep her from going too far?

I found it difficult to listen to the narrator, her voice is not appealing to me. I bought additional Robin Mahle audiobooks prior to hearing this story and not am unsure if I'll listen to them as I see they have the same narrator.

I enjoyed this story, however...

Any additional comments?

I really enjoyed listening to this book, the author definitely had me thinking about the killer all the way through. I would love to listen to other books by this author.

A tear jerker.

This is a pretty good book, well developed characters, great story, and unexpected ending! I will be reading/listening to more of this series.

What a good read!!

The narrator spoke like she was just reading the story, no excitement or being a character, instead of spending the money for the narration, I could have just read it for free myself.

Narrator Sucked

Robin Mahle has written a good beginning to this series. I see a lot of potential with her talent. I believe her next book will only be better. Some of the story was a bit unbelievable, but it may have been Mahle's way of showing her lead to be a strong female. I recommend this to fans of thrillers.

Not bad for first in series

This was a decent story - the writing felt basic but it lent itself fine to an audio book. It might have been grating to read it on the page but it passed the time at work. I honestly couldn't get past the fact that the narrator sounds like Ellen DeGeneres reading the book in a bathroom.

is the narrator reading in the bathroom?

This is a really good murder/ kidnapping book. I couldn't put it down. It has characters that kept me on the edge of my seat!

I had never heard of author Robin Mahle, but this novel in the Kate Reid series is a superb suspense mystery. Narrator Lisa Kelly is also new to me. Her performance is excellent. I hope more of Robin Mahle novels are released in audio format.

Terrific suspense mystery!

I gave this book four stars because I loved it so much, I could not put it down, until one major plot cliche changed my engaged reading experience into, an oh well, let me read on to see if the rest goes along as I predict. It did.

This is a good book I highly recommend to procedural lovers. Please note my negative comments are due to disappointment with a SUPER WRITER, who needed to place her shero into a cliche situation to advance the plot.

Here's the good stuff. Excellent narrator. Well drawn characters who grow, or devolve appropriately. Good plot and plot development that kept my interest for the first 75% of the book. After that I kept reading to see if I was correct and if I had missed anything.

The Shiny: a shero who is a shero from six to 30ish. She builds more than one new and admirable lives for herself when needed. She is destined to be the shero of many following novels.

The bad and the cliche: the author takes us down a path where fewer events are possible. Such a good path that the author needed to put an obviously stupid cliche to keep the book moving forward. Ii

I don't want to spoil the ending. But the only way I could forgive that turning point in the book would be if the shero had called out the two expert investigators near the end of the book. They called her out on enough actions that proved to be correct, she should have kicked butt on their major booboo. Yes, I am overly angry at this mistake. Otherwise I would have given the book a 5.

This was a decent story. I would have enjoyed it much more if the narrator had used more definitive "voices" for the characters. Also the echo (recorded in a tin can?) was so distracting I fought the urge to return the book. Please solve this problem. I would love to listen to other Kate Reid books.
