About this listen

From the author of the acclaimed thriller novels Jack Wakes Up and Young Junius comes In Broad Daylight, a taut psychological whodunnit with Stieg Larsson's intrigue and Karin Slaughter's raw insights on strange communities.

FBI agent Jess Harding treks back to Anchorage to hunt down a sadistic killer who's reemerged from a five-year hiatus--a killer who has already slipped her grasp once before. The endless days of an Alaskan summer can't thwart the fiend's plans as he slashes his way through the rural community, where everyone knows your name and always distrusts the outside. With the help of Oscar Linstrom, an old colleague who wants to be more than friends, Jess attempts to immerse herself in the area's culture, leading her to a strange rural village inhabited by Russian Old Believers hell-bent on protecting their way of life. Even the locals are outsiders to the Old Believers, and Jess needs a safehaven in the glare of daylight because a blood-stained message left at the scene of the most recent murder says Jess is no longer the hunter--but the hunted.

Seth Harwood, named a Best of 2010 author by George Pelecanos, returns with this terrifying daydream of an expansive Great North that offers no place to hide.

Excellent!

I loved this story. Fair warning the author is the narrator and it is an old podcast of this book, but don't let that deter you! He does a decent job, the audio isn't super professional quality as on a few it is a little echoey but I didn't find it distracting and was instantly pulled into the story. Jessica Harding is a FBI agent tracking a serial killer she lost track of 5 years ago. Most of the book takes place in remote Alaska, which is perfect as I love remote isolationist mysteries. It is a wonderful cat and mouse mystery! I hope there are more Jessica Harding books out there or more to come! An Interesting Tale

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request, and have voluntarily left this review. I found this fast paced and suspenseful tale very enjoyable. There is a lot of FBI chasing Serial Killers books out there, I found this one refreshing. The characters are well written and the plot keeps you guessing. Not necessarily about who is the killer, but how is she going to catch the killer. It made my trip go so much faster and I'll be checking out more books from this author.

Fun story

I completely enjoyed listening to this story. Lots of action and fun to follow the investigation along as it includes two states, the FBI, and a Russian community.
My only criticism is the narrator might want to work on his voices if he is going to use them while he reads. Every male character sounded like they were either from New Jersey or developmentally challenged.

A gripping story.

This book is narrated by the author, so it makes his story that much more. If you like F. B. I. Thrillers, this one is for you. A series killer starts up in Alaska, again, and the female agent who was taken off the case five years ago is called back to try and track him down. I couldn't stop listening. I received this audio book for free at my request and voluntarily reviewed.

Love the strong female lead!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend this book to friends who enjoy contemporary thrillers and murder mysteries.

What was one of the most memorable moments of In Broad Daylight?

One moment was not particularly memorable, but I did enjoy seeing how Jess worked through the case. This is from a first-hand perspective, and we learn facts about the case at the same time she does.

Would you listen to another book narrated by Seth Harwood?

This is the first book I've listened to that was narrated by Seth Harwood. This book is a compliation of podcast recordings.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

The villian in this book is heinous - a real monster. I had a strong reaction to him because he was just so evil!

Any additional comments?

Some of the descriptions of crime scenes and injuries sustained by characters in this book are pretty grim. I hit the 30-second fast foward button a few times to avoid hearing about it.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, I would. Seth has an easy voice to listen too. It doesn't put you to sleep and keeps you engaged.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Yes, in Broad Daylight kept me on the edge of my seat and is a definite page-turner. I loved the character development of FBI agent Jessica Harding. Agent Harding in assigned to hunt down a killer who has returned after a hiatus of several years. The story takes you from California to Alaska and is full of action.

What does Seth Harwood bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Listen to the sample and you will understand. I can't say that I enjoy listening to many narrators but Seth is different. Perhaps since he wrote and narrates the book, he is better able to place emphasis where it needs to be.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I can't say too much here as that would lead to spoilers but the unique way that some of the victims die.
