Publisher's summary

After losing his father and finding out his boyfriend had been cheating on him for months, Kael runs away from home, determined never to step foot back in that part of the world again.

Now, he's in a small town, determined to reinvent himself and give up men completely. At least, until a hot ginger alpha sweeps him off his feet with the love and affection he's always craved. Things quickly get serious as a string of mysterious murders forces them closer together, and Kael is left wondering if this is truly his second chance, or just another mistake waiting to happen.

Warning: This spicy shifter romance contains jaw-dropping twists, second chances, sizzling sex scenes, a cinnamon bun alpha, and a happily ever after that will leave you speechless. It should only be listened to by those who like their werewolves hot, and their broody boys shown the love they deserve.

Well written

Great story with good foreshadowing. While a little predictable the story is still interesting and kept me curious to see what would happen next. Can't wait to read the next book.

Great book I just wanted more!

First off this book is definitely worth the credit. It has such a cute story line and the ending is wrapped up nicely. Definitely worth the credit in my opinion. I only had 2 complaints. 1-I had to speed up the audio to really enjoy the narration. 2-I felt like the ending of the story could have been more detailed. I was left just wanting to know a little more detail, I felt like it was rushed a little bit. All in all a good listen!

Beautiful Love Story

Loved the story. Very well-written and the narration was a great. Adding this to my relisten list. Thanks for a great book. I look forward to the rest of the books in the series.

It's okay, just a bit shallow

The book has overall likable characters, there is some relatable personal conflict and the characters had okay chemistry, just, it all left me feeling like it was a bit shallow.

Any time we get a relationship conflict, it kinda feels a bit forced, resolves really easily and does not really get you interested. The eventual big outside conflict at the end also just, well, felt both predictable and forced at the same time. It was predictable because it was pretty much the only thing with any possible buildup, no red herrings, nothing, but at the same time, barring the trope of this, there also was not really any great reason for it being the way it was (being vague to avoid spoilers).

The book seems perfectly okay in terms of writing, the narrator is doing his job and the sex scenes felt good.

It just kinda lacked anything to really get you hooked.

Am I supposed to like this main character?

It's never a good thing when the protagonist of a romance novel rubs you the wrong way right off the bat, but holy hell does Kael annoy the crap out of me in the beginning of this book, starting with being snarky and obnoxious to low wage customer service employees. Shortly after arriving in town, he meets Chance, his fated mate or true love or whatever we're calling it in this universe, and is incredibly rude to him almost from the get go for no reason. Now there's nothing wrong with a protagonist being a jerk, or at least starting out that way, but I honestly don't think the author realizes what a jerk he is, or if we're supposed to think he's righteously angry at Chance somehow. Chance makes one offhand comment that Kael doesn't like and you'd think Kael caught him kicking puppies for fun. Soon accusations of "mansplaining" are being thrown around and, look, "mansplaining" is a dumb and sexist accusation under the best of circumstances, but even leaving that aside, it certainly doesn't apply here, where (1) both people involved are men, and (2) Chance was directly responding to a question that Kael had asked. He continues being irritating and rude and if Chance were smart, he'd run in the opposite direction, fate be damned.

I'd like to think Kael gets over himself at some point but why on earth would I want to continue listening to a book from the perspective of a spoiled, whiny, entitled snarky creep?

Narration is perfectly competent. I'd be happy to buy another audiobook he is involved with, which is more than I can say for this author.
