Publisher's summary

“As much as I felt bad for this Elisha person - God, my heart was breaking for the young man and all he'd been through - I was also angry. I'd left that pack in my rearview 10 years ago for a good reason.”

Matthias Longclaw is happy living his life on the back of his beloved Harley with his five best friends and brothers-in-arms at his side. The West Coast Wolves are a rare pack of alphas, made up of unwanted orphans and second-born sons. The packs they were born to may not have wanted them, but they’ve built a solid family of their own. They help where they can, doing random acts of kindness and expecting nothing in return, just helping to build a world they want to live in.

Then Matt gets a call from an old childhood buddy. He’s being called back - begged to return - to reclaim his birthright and save a life in the process. The problem is...to do it, he will have to take a mate. And if he refuses? The omega will die.

Torn between his duty to help others and his resentment of his old pack, Matt never expects for Elisha Whitetail to tilt his world and change everything. Can Matt and Elisha rebuild a broken pack while tending to a new love and a growing family while dealing with outside threats from neighboring packs

They’re wolves. Strong, proud, and willing to do what it takes when their community needs them...whatever it takes.

This is the first in a new mpreg series about finding joy in a hard world, building family, and discovering that life can surprise a person when they least expect it. Although this world has harsher themes than my previous books, it still has the same heart you’d expect. Plus a dose of my irreverent humor and all the naughty, knotty heat that comes with true mates. It wouldn’t be a Susi Hawke book without it. Be sure to listen to the author's note at the beginning for possible trigger warnings.

Excellent Start to a New Hawke Series! Loved This

The Reluctant Alpha (audiobook)
MMy Thoughts and Confessions:

I am thrilled to bits with this new series, by Susi Hawke. I am such a huge fan of hers anyway, but this series is definitely what I have been needing.

The West Coast Wolves are a bunch of Alphas who have left or been ostracized from their packs. So, even though it goes against everything known in the shifter world, this group of alphas have become a pack on their own and are closer than most families.

When one of the members, Matthias, gets a distress call from home he must decide to stay with his found family of brothers, or return to his birth pack and save a dying omega and the pack from destruction. Matt suffered so much abuse from his Alpha father growing up, while the rest of the pack stood by and did nothing. He is not so sure he wants to help these same people now, even though his father is no longer around, and years have passed. However, he is not sure he can let an innocent omega die for the sins of his diabolical uncle either. Matt and his West Coast Wolf Pack brothers have always taken pride in helping others in need. He can’t stop now…or can he?

I love Hawke’s storytelling because the characters are people you want to know and have in your life. The worlds she creates are places you want to visit and live in. I always find myself so immersed in these stories MY real-life must pause, so I don’t miss a single scene, one-liner, or character introduction.

I was also ecstatic to find Nick J. Russo was the narrator for this book. When I discovered Russo about a year and a half ago, he quickly became one of my top five favorite narrators. Whenever an audiobook crosses my desk and Russo’s name is attached to said audiobook, I know the story will move me. With, “The Reluctant Alpha,” Nick did a stupendous job bringing the book to life.

I can hardly wait for more of the series to come to audio. I hope it will be soon. I highly recommend this to anyone searching for a good shifter series with lots of heart, humor, and a sense of family and belonging.

Great storyline

I enjoyed this story. The storyline was interesting with lots of new twists in the plot. The characters Matt who is a alpha with no pack and Elisha who is a omega in trouble go through a lot but in the end they get there HEA great storyline. The narrator did a amazing job.

Love it

Overall I do like the story. my only issue with this audiobook is in chapter 2 I feel like the narrator may have skipped a sentence or there was some audio glitch because it goes from talking about being "what it takes to be a real man” and it sounds like it cuts right to another sentence that’s describing one of the alpha’s backstory.

Aside from that, I think it was a nicely written story and I look forward to reading more.

Cherishing my mate and my pack

It’s always such a delight to listen/read Susi Hawke’s omegaverse stories. They are always sweet, angsty, funny and interesting. A lovely treat.

Matthias has abandoned his old pack and life and living a new life with his 5 best friends. They might be unwanted and unloved but they love, cherish and protect all those weaklings and abandoned shifters like them. When Matthias was summoned back to his old pack to inherit the pack, he definitely didn’t want to go. But if he doesn’t go back, an innocent life may perish in the process and all members of his old pack may perish along.

I love how Susi Hawke set up her omegaverse novels. We get all the good, tingly feelings here with sappy, addictive shifter love. And I like knowing that we might get the stories of Elisha’s two omega brothers and Matthias’ best friends. NJR did a great job narrating this story. Really loved it!

Fluffy shifter series!

There's no other word to describe this book than fluffy. Most shifter books are gritty and raw. This one not so much. Yes there's action, omega bias, neglect, and the usual pack dynamics, but Susi Hawke still manage to write a soft and sweet romance. Love Matt and Elisha, they compliment each other well. I also love Matt's friends and can't wait to read their stories. Love this new spin on werewolves lifestyle and I'll be reading the next book immediately as the way this one ends leave me craving for more. Nick J Russo's narration was brilliant, every new performance of his just make me love them more. I recommend this low angst fantastic story!

The Reluctant Alpha is all in

This is the first in a new series and as soon as it was finished I was immediately searching for information on book 2! The typical wolf pack has only one Alpha in the pack so I loved that West Coast Wolves was a pack of all Alphas. This nomadic band of brothers enjoyed a freedom of getting on their motorcycles and going. When Matthias gets a call from his former home pack, his life changes instantly. One thing that makes this book so good is the secondary characters are just as interesting and entertaining as the main characters. The continual growth of the pack was another thing that I enjoyed. I loved the omegas each had their own unique gift and it left me wanting to know more.
The narrator did a fantastic job of drawing you into the story by making each character stand out while bringing the story to life. I anxiously await the next book in this series!

Heat, sweetness and humor...

The Reluctant Alpha by Susi Hawke is the first book in the new West Coast Wolves series. Heat, sweetness, humor... this book sets the bar high for this series. I immediately was drawn in and devoured this book. This is going into my must read multiple times list. The world building, character developing.. I can not wait for every single book to be release.

Nick J Russo narrates this story.  The voicework is fantastic and the recording is clear.

Enjoyable

The Reluctant Alpha is book 1 in the West Coast Wolves series. Matthias left his pack but 10 years later he's called back to not only take over as Pack Alpha but also claim the Pack Omega, Elisha, who was left to die. I enjoyed this story. It gave a good foundation for the series and I look forward to more in this world. I liked the way Matt's community welcomed him back. He's the leader they all need.
Narrator Nick J. Russo does a marvelous job.
