About this listen

Always On the Way: Travel Stories of a Semi-Young Black Woman's Life Overseas While Trying to Maintain Her Sanity recounts the trials and triumphs of a youngish Texan living, working, and traveling in the far East. In 2014, Stacy Thomas decided to fulfill one of her childhood dreams by moving to South Korea. In this book, she related the challenges she encountered while teaching English as a second language to Korean school children in grades one-six, during which she felt a kind of rage that was similar to that of the Incredible Hulk on a daily basis. After the completion of her one-year teaching contract, she decided to travel to Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Taiwan, Australia, and New Zealand for three months as a belated 30th birthday gift to herself. Come along with Stacy as she shares the many priceless experiences that she was fortunate and unfortunate to come across during her journey through nine different countries.

About the author: Stacy Thomas is a professional voice actor based out of Dallas, Texas, with an eternal passion for travel and food. She earned her bachelor's and master's degrees at the University of North Texas in Speech-Language Pathology. Stacy worked as a speech-language pathologist for two years in King City, California, before she moved to South Korea in 2014 to teach English for a year. Always on the Way is her first book.

Disappointed

I had a lot of hope about this book and I was pretty let down. I didn’t find the story interesting. I did appreciate that it was narrated by the author. I always love that. I hope others find this interesting and find something insightful to the story. It just wasn’t for me.

Refreshing, insightful and low key

I really appreciate the author's unassuming sensibilities and this was the main factor that made me look forward to hearing more and more.
It was so refreshing to read the travel stories of a female author who enjoys traveling for traveling's sake.
Stacy Thomas shares her year long (difficult) experiences teaching elementary aged children in South Korea; and then takes us with her as she explores food, social interactions, bicycling, hiking and seeing parks, hiking trails and beaches all throughout Japan, Laoise, Vietnamn New Zealand and Australia. (Did I miss a country there? there were a lot!)
Her practical, happy, and friendly style left me full of hope and optimism for my own future plans!

Hilarious and informative

This was so funny. Thomas included her -isms throughout the book that made her stories of her journey more personable. It was as if your best friend was telling you about this crazy thing that happened. She portrayed the random and awesome events that can happen when you solo travel. I very much recommend this book to anyone but especially anyone interested in traveling solo.
