About this listen

Two years ago....

Driven by grief to find a cure for cancer, Elizabeth DeMarco left Logan Spencer to accept a position on a research expedition to the Amazon rainforest. Kidnapped by guerrillas, she was saved by a secret all-female civilization, the last of the ancient Amazons. But Elizabeth discovers she's traded one form of captivity for another.

Today....

Logan never stopped searching for Elizabeth. While consulting in the remote Brazilian interior near where she was kidnapped, Logan suffers what should be a fatal fall. Near death, he's collected by the Amazons and magically healed. Elizabeth is the first person he sees as he wakes.

But there's no time for a joyful reunion. The Amazons' mystical medicine is rapidly changing Logan. They want his DNA and plan to take it—and then kill him. Logan and Elizabeth must escape before dawn or Logan—and their second chance at happiness—is doomed.

Rating: 3/5
Heat Rating: 3/5
Narrator Performance: 3.5/5

I think that this story was pretty complete considering it's length. There were one or two plot threads that the authors left dangling and an obvious set up for a second book that never came. This novella is a reunited lovers trope and I found that the romance between the main characters was believable. The supernatural aspects of the story were completely unique. They were something new and fresh for my PNR loving butt.

I liked the narrator. I enjoyed her using an accent for the Amazons. However I would have preferred her to use a more defining voice for the male character. Her pace was rather good and she was able to put some emotion into her performance.

A Fresh Supernatural World

The story line has great promise and were it substantially built up it might be worthy of Melinda Leigh's name. The unnecessarily descriptive sex scenes were beneath her usual standards and demeaned the book. I also wouldn't buy another book read by this reader. She was too breathy and childishly dramatic for my taste.
