About this listen

A thrilling epic fantasy novel where Ambessa Medarda learns what it means to be a Chosen of the Wolf. Set in the blockbuster and award-winning universe of League of Legends: Arcane. Read by Ellen Thomas, the voice of Ambessa Medarda in Arcane, and written by award-winning author C. L. Clark.

Medarda over all.

Ambessa Medarda: Warrior, general, mother. She is a woman to be feared, and the Medardas are unrivaled in their pursuit of glory. She has led conquests and armies. She has slain legendary beasts. She has made grave sacrifices in her ascent up the ranks. And for this she was rewarded: She entered the realm of death and was granted a vision of herself upon the throne of the vast Noxian empire.

But before she can lead her empire, she must become head of her own clan. Yet the title is contested by her cousin and former confidante, Ta’Fik. He knows the bloody sins of Ambessa’s past. And he knows he cannot allow her to rise.

They will fight a war for the very soul of the Medardas.

But the war won’t be fought on battlefields alone. Ambessa’s daughter, Mel, can deftly break through the walls around anyone’s heart, and she’ll put her talents to use for her mother. Yet despite Mel’s strength, Ambessa sees only a child who lacks her killer instincts. Mel knows she can be the leader Ambessa wants her to be, if only she gives her time.

With her family betraying her, enemies closing in on all sides, and unseen forces moving in the shadows, every day proves more dangerous than the last. But Ambessa will not bow. She will burn the world down to claim her place in it.

awesome lore expansion

it's so cool that they got the same voice actress from the show to do the narration for the book. The book adds a lot of depth to the already complex and interesting character of Ambessa, and is a great way to expand the lore of Arcane. greatly enjoyed it!

not much of a novel but a fun story

reads and feels a lot more like a screenplay than your traditional novel. completely composed of just slapped scenes and very little character building despite constantly being swung into a different characters pov. would have probably worked better as a full fledged screenplay in my opinion. the story itself is hard to really care for because no specific event is given time to breathe before we are launched without Segway into the next scene. on a screen we could see these things play out better and actually maybe surmise what each character felt in these moments but every character was deligated to a seemingly unbiased omnipresent narrator for the scene they were in charge of and nothing else. that being said I think the author did their best with what they were given to work with, as all these things are common issues in any league of legends literature and not exclusive to this novel.

Rell is the best part in my opinion wish this book was about her

The book is good I just enjoyed Rell more than Ambessa and I didn’t get enough of her

A complex champions journey of vengeance and love

This was an explosive surprise. The author did an excellent job weaving the reader into the world of League Of Legends. Ambessa was a complex character you love, hate, but understood. This was an epic journey for fantasy readers that are familiar with Arcane or not. The reader had a rich depth in voice that created a persuasive tone that captured the characters perfectly.

On edge the whole time

Just holy crap. Seeing everything Ambessa did to get to where she was during the show? I was just awestruck by it and having her VA narrate? Even better!

GLORIOUS

Ambessa's character is portrayed amazingly and Noxus is very well delved into. I loved it, I hope Rel is in future League of Legends lore.

This was Amazing

This was a wonderful prequel to Arcane (Netflix)! I loved that Ambessa's voice actresses was also the reader of the book. It tied the story together nicely.

Great story, wish they had the video game voice actors

The narrator did a great job, but i would have preferred the original voice actors like they did in ruination

A CL Clark has No Mercy

Clark completely captures who Ambessa is as her own unique character while also showing us how becomes even more-so dug-in to her mindset that mercy is never an option. The character alone is infuriating- but in the best ways possible because we are able to see the “human” side of her when the “wolf” side is challenged. But like most adults (especially parents), they’re incredibly rigid with their mindset. So you want to root for Ambessa for all the tragedy she goes through while at the same time you want to beat her with a stick for knowing she’s wrong but doing it anyways because that’s against her family’s code and how she was raised.

Some of the bittersweet moments within the story is that I found myself more interested in the side characters. After a while, you kinda give up on Ambessa changing and start focusing on the growth of the other characters - and they’re so fun to see grow! Especially one Noxian I didn’t expect to see at all - which is awesome!!

Our narrator, being the voice actor of Ambessa from Arcane is just the cherry on top. I’m glad she tried to work her voice to match the other voices of the other characters that were present in Arcane.

Overall, I really enjoyed this story and I hope CL Clark continues telling our Epilogue character’s story in the next book while expanding on the telling of the Black Rose. But … we might have to wait for Riot Games to show us what that looks like with (hopefully) a Mel series as she journeys from Piltover to Noxus.
