About this listen

After nearly thirty years in the same job, Inspector Kurt Wallander is tired, restless, and itching to make a change. He is taken with a certain old farmhouse, perfectly situated in a quiet countryside with a charming, overgrown garden. There he finds the skeletal hand of a corpse in a shallow grave. Wallander's investigation takes him deep into the history of the house and the land, until finally the shocking truth about a long-buried secret is brought to light.

A Win for Wallander

Thoroughly enjoyed this Wallander mystery. Not filled with action but I much prefer a tale well told, which Mankell is the master!!
The surprise at the end of the audible book of listening to how Wallander came to be as shared by the author was great!

An Event in Autumn

Great foundation building for the complete series of Wallander books. I listened to it twice.

Good Story and Fascinating Author 's Note

This is quite short and so the plot is not so sophisticated as longer Wallander books. However the comments at the end by the author are an unexpected delight.

How nice to revisit Kurt Wallander

Some of my favorite books ever were Kurt Wallander novels. It was sad to let him go in The Troubled Man.

I saw this novel realized with Kenneth Branagh on BBC Masterpiece Theatre I think it was, and remember thinking ' I don't remember reading this story'. I also remember looking it up and realizing it did not exist.

What a wonderful surprise when I saw it in Audible, I purchased immediately and listened right away. I am just sorry it was so short.

It was good to hear his grumpy retorts and his philosophy on life. To remember how he worked through the crime scenes.

I just regret that it made me sad again to know there were no more to be listened to.

Simon Vance was wonderful as always. I would listen to him read about garbage pick up.

After the book is over There is a wonderful afterword by Henning Mankell telling about the inception of Wallander and the writing through his life. Make sure you listen all way to the end.

"Bye Kurt"

Good read by Simon Vance but for a full credit, I expected a lot more I think.

Listed as book 11 in series but it is not

I have read the entire series and this was listed as the final book. So even though it was short, I purchased it. After listening for a few minutes, I realized the events were out of order. Upon checking I see it was written before several of the books. There used to be a way to return books that were not acceptable but I don’t see that any more. This is erroneously labeled. I like the series but find this book out of place and distracting.
