About this listen

Twelve years ago, Brandon Pearce had to give up the girl he loved, Amelia Howard. Now Amelia is a grown woman with a past she desperately needs to keep hidden in order to save her brother Frederick's reputation. In an effort to avoid blackmail, Frederick needs to place several gentlemen into government positions, and for that, he'll need an ally in Parliament - Pearce.

Pearce has been investigating Scepter, a criminal group the Armory believes is behind the government appointments. Pearce must pretend that he sides with the blackmailer, even though it means breaking Amelia's heart. But Pearce is willing to do anything he can for a second chance with her, even when he discovers she's been keeping secrets of her own.

Get out your smelling salts! This sexy Regency novel features a second-chance romance between a former military commander who stubbornly thinks he knows best and a strong-headed heroine who will fight tooth and nail for those she loves.

As with a number of series, Audible is behind listing this romance, both under the "Lords of the Armory" series & under Anna Harrington's books. Justine Eyre is always one of my favorite narrators. (I know she's not appreciated by all, so listen to her samples.)
I would not have used a credit if it was properly listed as the first in the series had a unbelievable premise that I just couldn't get past. If you like historical romantic suspense with an intrigue & espionage flavor, I would certainly rate this book as definitely "credit worthy.” Especially if you enjoy regency romance set in the era near the Napoleonic wars.
If you're squeamish about sexual content (I am not) I would rate it a 5.5 on a 10 Steam scale.
Now that Audible is getting very picky in accepting returns by phone (even though my Audible Premium Plus Annual account still says I am able to exchange titles if I don’t love them) I choose my credits very carefully. I'm also listening to older books in my library & discovering many forgotten gems.
And I will keep my eye out for #3 the in the series.

Much better than the first one which I returned.
