About this listen

When Jackie is released from prison, his boss Pino sends a limo to pick him up. Even fresh out of the joint, ruthless Jackie is ready to work, collecting money for the mob and using his special training to take care of bad accounts—permanently.

But when a drunk driver kills Pino’s young son, he gives Jackie a task that goes against every moral code. The drunk driver has a pre-teen daughter, and Pino doesn’t just want vengeance—he wants an eye for an eye.

Jackie accepts the job, but once he finds the girl he starts making plans of his own….

And the Devil Cried is a dark thriller from Kristopher Triana, the award-winning author of Gone to See the River Man and Full Brutal. It is a vicious, unflinching novel that’s bound to keep you burning.

What will Jack do next?

This was more noir fiction than extreme horror. I still loved it. Jack is a guy you wouldn’t want to be friends with. He’s repulsive. The dirtiest of the dirty. Just when you think he can’t hit any lower, he does. Strangers, friends, children, it doesn't matter. Jack is not a loveable character. He isn’t even likable. He's the character you love to hate. However, he keeps your attention and engages you with wondering what happens next.

A grand slam by Kristopher Triana on this book. Flawless and Chuck Brugee did an awesome job with the narration.

Highly recommended. A pure 5-star from me.

Triana does it again!

The main character in And the Devil Cried is abhorrent and I found myself sucked into the story, mouth agape, dying to see what happened next. If you like Full Brutal, definitely give AtDC a read.

A despicable protagonist in a story that won't let

Triana did a great job in this book of creating a protagonist that is a completely despicable monster. Someone that with every page of the book I hated a little bit more. But at the same time, the novel was gripping. Sharp. The violence and action kept me going. Maybe to see what was next. Or maybe to see who escaped, because there was a lot of characters hurt and killed in this book. In case you haven't realized it yet, this is one of Triana's intense, don't read if you have a sensitive stomach type of books.

Jackie has just gotten out of prison. While inside he was running drugs and prostitutes for the mob; now he's out and ready to do anything for the local crime boss. Killing people is one of Jackie's favorite things. Jackie is revealed to be detestable, morally reprehensible, and has not qualms about anything. When the crime boss wants revenge for his son being killed by a drunk driver, Jackie takes to it with zeal.

Now before you start thinking "cool, a hard-boiled crime novel", the book is that but it's done with Triana's brutality. There will be scenes that are hard to get through. Intense and graphic is normal for pretty much everything Jackie does. We the readers get presented with that in a non-flinching, blunt manner. The story is addicting though. I was not disappointed by Triana and I would carefully recommend the book; it won't be for everyone. Each Triana book has been different but all have been exciting!

Jack is a very, very bad man.

Jack is your everyday, stereotypical psychopath who just happens to be in the periphery of the Mob. Jack does a lot of bad stuff... awful stuff, but then he is tasked with making a man suffer by doing something unspeakable the man’s little girl.

You take it from there.

This story got the full 5 because it didn't "go there" with some of the violence. It was either implied or never happened at all. But you thought it would...

That's horror!

Hmm….?

It ended abruptly to me, but overall the book was awesome. The narrator was clear and concise….not to mention the story kept my attention. A definite must read!

Victimization of the innocent

What makes this so disturbing is Triana’s ability to write a character with zero qualms about victimizing the most innocent. It’s really unsettles you because we are not used to seeing these characters treated this way but obviously in an extreme horror genre, the rules are different. Triana is great at toying with your emotions.

The Evil of Untreated PTSD

Mr Triana kills it again with this novel. The protagonist is a good man struggling with undiagnosed PTSD. What you end up with is a man with psychopathic tendencies. This novel is well written and story engaging. Violence, sex (surprisingly not graphic), and hilarious banter! I.e. not a book for the woke flakes.

As I do with all reviews I indicate if a book does or does not have the most important TW: This book HAS NO ANIMAL DEATHS OR CRUELTY.
You’re welcome.

What a Ride!

And The Devil Cried is so engrossing. I’ve never read a book quite like this one. A story that’s so marvelously brutal which comes from the mind of a deranged sadomasochistic. Although this book is amazing, and the content is disturbing, Triana has an undeniable talent for effortlessly weaving words together and taking you on a journey you never will forget.
I had both the hardback and paperback of this this book but I opted for the audio version, and I’m glad I did. I don’t feel like the narration could have been any better. He added so much to the story and kept my attention through the whole book, which is hard to do a lot of times for me, as my mind often drifts off on daily life things.
Triana has never disappointed me in anything I’ve read of his and has become one of my favorite authors. Highly recommend this to all my horror loving friends and if you like audiobooks or never tried one before, this is a great one to listen to or start with. I promise you won’t be disappointed.

Gripping horror/thriller

Kristopher Triana always manages to create despicable characters that I love to hate. Jackie is fresh out of the joint and working for the mob. He doesn't have a moral compass to save his life. The story had me gripped from the beginning, wanting to know how far Jackie would push the limits.
Chuck Burgee did a great job as narrator. His voice sounds like he could be an East Coast mob guy, so it fits perfectly with the story.
I received a promotional credit in exchange for an honest review.

Loved it!!!

I think Jackie is my new favorite character: funny, disturbing, violent, and charismatic the perfect antagonist... with that combination any story is worth a listen or read.
