About this listen

Andrew McCarthy grows concerned for his family after he catches a young man, Zachary Denton, photographing his daughter, Grace McCarthy, and other children at a park. To his dismay, Zachary talks his way out of trouble when he’s confronted by the police. He hopes that’s the end of it. Then he finds Zachary at a diner and then at a grocery store. He knows their encounters aren't coincidences. And just as Andrew prepares to defend his family, Grace vanishes.

As the police search stalls and the leads dry up, Andrew decides to take matters into his own hands. He starts by searching for sex offenders in the area and researching enhanced interrogation techniques.... He convinces himself he’ll do anything to rescue his daughter, unaware of the pure evil he'll face in his journey. He’s willing to hurt - to torture - anyone to save his family.

Jon Athan, the author of Into the Wolves’ Den and The Abuse of Ashley Collins, delves into the underworld of internet predators in this disturbing horror novel. Are your children safe?

What horror is really out there for our children.

Disturbing and sometimes hard hear as far as content. But after listening to this book. I would like to help and sign petitions to invoke stricter laws on pedophilia. We need to protect our youth.

so disturbing and something every parent should read

Jesus! as a 37 year old whose been watching SVU since I was 9 and consumed all types of true crime, this book was hard to get through. I saw a bunch of different people posting about it in a book club from FB and thought I'd give it a go. I was blow away with how gruesome it is and how much it affected me. I was nearly physically ill during multiple parts. the hardest part is knowing that things like this really do happen. its very important parents are talking with their kids about the dangers the internet poses and what could happen.

the realness is horrifying!

Have you ever read a book that made you look around and go "wait... the world is this messed up, I should be more concerned?"

If you haven't, this is that book. This story made me re-think all of the things my children do on a daily basis. It was horrifying... in the best way possible of course.

Some people will read the title and see the cover and wonder why anyone reads things like this. The answer? Simply, to feel something. The feelings this story invoked were incredibly powerful, and enough to truly make you reasses the world around you.

Jon did an incredible job writing this heart wrenching story.

Blew my mind

My first splatterpunk/extreme horror and my mind was blown. Almost had to stop but pushed through and I’m glad I did. Definitely an eye opener.

The truth behind what’s happening in the world

Overall powerful cutthroat book.. if you can’t stomach the truth, don’t listen very raw and uncut.

TERRIBLE NARRATION!

The story is ok if you’re into extreme horror, although the author takes a horrifying real-world premise and turns it into something that seems completely ridiculous by the end.

The narration tho, is possibly the most amateurish that I’ve ever heard. How did this person get chosen to narrate ANYTHING? It’s like listening to a first grader trying to read Stephen King aloud or something. From the stilted, un-natural delivery, to the constant mispronunciation of words, this is HORRENDOUS! But the worst part probably is that the narration doesn’t fit the tone of the horrific story at all. It sounds like he’s reading a children’s book. Goofy, cartoonish over-the-top voices while reading some of the most awful, depraved stuff you can imagine. Just ridiculous. If you really want to read this book, I would advise staying far away from the audio version.

Terrible Narrator

I think I could have enjoyed this book-even through the extremely violent descriptions and nightmarish deaths if it wasn’t for the WORST narrative I have ever listened to. How did this guy get chosen to read this novel? It sounds like he’s sounding out words and reading in front of the class for the very first time. He completely ruined it for me. It was amateurish and horrible. Horrible!!! I would never recommend this audio story to anyone based on having to listen to the poor guy struggle to get through his read-aloud story.

Mind blowing

This book was my first read where I was unsure if I could actually finish it. The first couple chapters really tested me on how dark they were. I’m glad I pushed through. This is happening all around us. Grooming is a real problem. I finished this in no time at all. I would definitely suggest this book to read. However you need to definitely look into the warnings before starting to read this as well.

disturbing

the scenes are brutal, detailed and horrifying! i don't think the correct word for this book would be "enjoyed" because it kept me shocked the entire time. the end filled me with anger and I rooted for the father the entire. i think this book is really good overall: great topic, good main characters, it creates awarness. these things really happen! however i totally disliked the person reading this book: it was like a computer read it! i gave 1 star for the performance. but the story and the research that went into this deserves 5 stars.

Story is good but performance awful

I recommend reading the book. The narrator was not very good, actually annoying. It takes away from the story when the father's parts sound similar to the captor.
