About this listen

A camping trip gone wrong as a mysterious stranger and an ominous competition leave three friends in a race for survival.

Chris, Kevin, and Kate wake up in a rugged wilderness far from their planned campsite. Their gear nowhere to be found, the three friends are left to make do with nothing but a pack of matches, water canteen, and strange devices displaying a fast approaching countdown fastened around their wrists.

In their search for answers and a way home, the friends quickly discover that navigating their new surroundings is the least of their problems. Not only are the friends not alone, but they appear to be part of an elaborate hunting expedition, and they're the targets.

The race for survival forces the campers to lean on their skill, wit, and instinct to evade pursuit while digging deep within themselves to discover what they're capable of as they try to escape the deadly game.

Good read

Pretty good story that was at times predictable. Definitely held my interest and held a few surprises in the end.

What a great listen.

Have you ever heard of the vacation company Apex? Neither has Kate, Kevin and Chris. On a pleasure weekend in the wilderness Chris is helping Kate brought up on her survival skills and teaching Kevin who is a novice things he needs to know about the same subject. After finding there can you porn night a stranger comes, His name is ranger and after a good nights sleep he seems to have a Lotta questions for Chris and even an offhanded job opportunity. Chris blows it off and doesn’t think twice about it and they move along with their weekend trip only to wake up who knows where and who knows how they got there. All they know is they have these strange clocks on the wrist that started at 36:00 and is counting down Chris has a water bottle on his belt, Kate has matches in her pocket and Chris it’s something that I can’t remember at the moment I am so sorry. Anyway this is win the game begins Richmond or out to be the winner in the day or the first one done or the last man standing they stand to win millions of dollars, but Little does Kevin, Kate and Chris know they too can win millions of dollars in the game… They just don’t know they’re playing it. This was one of the best and I mean the best books I have read in a long time. I stories of survival and this is one of the best I have bread in a very long time! When I said this book is good I am underestimating the totality of the greatness of this audiobook. I can only hope the author has other books like this not to mention the narrator Steve Quinn did such a great job it’s just an awesome experience I loved it!

Mind-bender. Soooo fast-paced and exciting

This book is crazy good. Hugely entertaining and fast-paced. It was so good I wandered around my house listening to it long after I should have taken out my earbuds and been communicating with my family.
Three regular Joe camper/survivalists are chosen - without their knowledge of consent - to participate in a game of life and death that they don't know the rules to.
You won't regret this book. It's so much better than so many I listen to.
Steve Quinn is a master narrator. Each character has their own vocal personality which remains consistent throughout. It's clear that Steve prepared ahead of time and selected how to play each character with care.

Entertaining- won’t win awards but kept us engaged .

My husband and I listened to this on road trip and despite being pretty far fetched, it was entertaining and narrator did a good job. Could have done better with characters names and backgrounds. Cliff hanger ending that kept you on the edge of your seat.

variation on 'most dangerous game'

The audiobook blurb explains the main premise of the story, so I knew from the beginning how the plot would generally arc. The author did a good job with pacing and tension, and I was cheering for the protagonists. I suspected that at least one protagonist wouldn't make it to the end of the story, so I was curious to hear what their individual fates would be. I also liked the hunters' characteristics. You'd like to think that the rich and bored would be able to come up with something more meaningful and fulfilling to do in their spare time; the author showed us different dimensions of the dark side of human nature with this cast of antagonists. And then there was an intermediary character that I couldn't quite figure out. For that reason alone, I would have liked to see a longer novel so that the author could have developed his back story further. I also liked the ending-but-not-an-ending, which left me wondering how the future chapters would have been written. Indeed, the story is set up such that the author could easily spin off one or two books - if that happens, I think I would be interested in reading them...

Narration was good - character voices weren't distractingly fake-sounding, which helped me stay engaged consistently with the story.

Winner takes all!

A semi-interesting thriller where the rich and powerful pay a small fortune to hunt the most dangerous animal on earth; man. The hunters: Mr. Black, Mr. White, and Mr. Blue. The prey: Chris, Kevin, and Kate. Our unfortunate safari volunteers, who were on a hiking trip turned in for the night, to wake up in the morning in a strange location with only an empty canteen and a box of matches. The hunters are armed with bows, a backpack of supplies, and communication equipment. The “game” would last thirty-six hours, winner takes all. The survival techniques used by the prey were thoughtful and a bit unique depending on the circumstances. Some won and some lost. You’ll have to read the story to find out the winner(s). Apex

I have been weighing how to review this book. It was well-written. It was enjoyable for the most part. It was rather straightforward in its approach to the content, but that didn't detract from it. The synopsis of the book made it seem like The Most Dangerous Game. I enjoyed that. I think what I didn't like was that not enough happened for the length. I may be spoiled here and I am taking that into account, but the hunts seemed subdued and the reaction of the characters to the end game scenario seemed woefully inadequate. Maybe I just didn't appreciate the pace. I kept waiting for a punch to the gut or slap in the face moment and it never came for me. I did enjoy the overall feel of the book and the content is always interesting to me in a "how would I react?" way.

This book was given to me for free at my request for my voluntary and unbiased review.
