About this listen

A Space Marine Conquests novel

The Word Bearers have come to despoil the Ecclesiarchy world of Almace - and it will take the Space Marines and the world's secretive leaders working together to prevent an apocalypse....

Listen to It Because:

Apocalypse is all about the biggest battles, and Josh Reynolds delivers that in this tale of three Space Marine Chapters waging war, with the fate of an entire world hanging in the balance.

The Story:

Following the cataclysmic Great Rift, forces from the Imperial Fists, White Scars and Raven Guard mobilise to defend the cardinal world of Almace from an invasion by the twisted traitors of the Word Bearers....

Lieutenant Heyd Calder is a Primaris Marine whose mastery of warfare is matched only by his diplomatic prowess. Under the orders of Roboute Guilliman, he is deployed to Almace, a minor seat of the Ecclesiarchy, to protect the world at whatever cost. Yet even as diabolical forces leer from the system's edge, Calder discovers that the capital's Cardinal-Governor, a sharp, inscrutable figure of spiritual and material authority, is hiding something. When it becomes clear that conquest is not the enemy’s sole aim, Calder resolves to uncover the secret of Almace. As the system is set ablaze, clashes of faith, strategy and politics ensue in the capital, and it becomes clear that the forces of the Ecclesiarchy and the Adeptus Astartes must fight together if they are to have any hope of victory.

when you start you cannot

I'll have to say this is one of the better performances I've heard so far. The storyline has you engrossed in the characters and their views passing moments of the story. A great book to listen and sitting down or while driving.

Good Story, Great Performance

Its a Good story of brotherhood between 3 differing chapters and 2 very different generations of Space Marine. Overall I felt that the writing was akin to Aaron Dembski Bowden with the way interactions between spaces marines play out and through a lot of the actions sequences. The best part of this audio book has to be Richard Reeds performance. To anyone who's played the original Dawn of War games, Reed's Chaos sounds just like that and even the way some of the dialogue was delivered gave me flashbacks of playing the game.

couldn't stop listening.

honestly, there are few books that grab the attention as well as Apocalypse. I am a huge fan of all things 40k, and this book is amazing. I can tell the writer took the time to research the universe and Apocalypse reads cleanly. I highly recommend this to anyone interested in some good old 40k fun. Also, thank you Josh Reynolds for giving us this beautiful book, I look forward to seeing more from you.

Enjoyable if you don't mind the "new lore"

I just hope this isn't a meaningless side story. To not spoil anything at the end there's a sort of reveal that I would like to see built on.

excellent 👍

I loved it the great insight into the working of some of my favorite chapters and more surprisingly a lot of insight into the word bearers which I didn't expect when starting but enjoyed thoroughly

Good, but weird editing

The cuts at the beginning of each chapter are not smooth, but overall a fun listen

Action packed but a little lacking

I enjoy a good battle which this book provides plenty of. Some of the plot just felt lacking though as if the author took the easy way out and just “ended” them. The reader did a phenomenal job and that’s what mostly kept me engaged. In terms of Apocalyptic battles, this does not compare to the sheer scale of battles the 40K universe has had, not even close, but it was still fairly grand for the concept of an entire system enveloped in a battle at once. No Titans mentioned. No supremely mass space battle. It was more “3000 point” battle scale if I were to even try to compare it to the size of a tabletop game.

Another Winner

I loved this one. Was sad when it ended. Loved the characters, the Khan may be my favorite.

Great story from start to finish.

It is well paced and well written. Story shows both sides of the conflict effectively where one could sympathize with either faction. Also shows the transition from the old Marines to the new Primaris Marines effectively too. See fighting in the void and on land too. Great game of wits, wills and brawn between the two factions. One minor nitpick and minor spoiler alter I will post below

*********************************Potental/ minor spoiler alter**************************************

The ending is heart braking as they pull one last emotional sucker punch. Don't ruin the story, but by goodness there are really are no happy endings in 40k. I wish they didn't do that, but like I said, that's 40k. Don't get attached to anyone. Still well worth the read.
