About this listen

Jerry Mitchell, now the commodore of submarine Development Squadron Five, is dismayed when USS Toledo is reported missing in Arctic waters, close to Russian territory. The vessel is captained by his former shipmate and close friend Lenny Berg. Eager to investigate, Jerry convinces the navy to redirect one of his squadron’s boats to find out what happened.

It turns out Toledo was sunk just outside of Russian territorial waters by a torpedo launched from a naval mine. Even more disturbing is the discovery that Russia is building a deadly weapon. Engineers have modified the STATUS-6, a strategic nuclear propelled, nuclear armed torpedo that is already operational, into a stealthy first strike weapon: Drakon. This new tool would allow the Russians to launch a completely covert nuclear decapitation strike on the USA.

The new Russian president has plans for Europe and is more than willing to use nuclear blackmail - or an actual attack - to keep the Americans from interfering. To avoid a Russian war in Europe and a nuclear catastrophe at home, Mitchell must find a way to destroy the Drakon launcher before it’s too late.

Me being a US Navy sub sailor the language spot on. Realistic. like the whole tale. Story telling great.

The story.

The story is hard to imagine unless you've been emersed in navy talk, but it's an interesting premise given current times. Hollywood endings ho hum.

George Guidall still great

A great story, moved along well. It was great to have the old nemesis (USSR) on the other side of the battle. George Guidall is one of my favorite readers. A good reader makes a big difference!

Another great one

I enjoyed this book, though I would not call it memorable. I have read a similar book with a similar plot that had a better plot and climax. However, this was NOT a bad purchase. There were sections of the read that held my attention. and other parts that just seemed to not really impact me.
It was an easy listen and I will be keeping it for another read at a later date. Good Luck with your listening pleasure.

Over all a good rendtion

Bond makes the advisory out to be stronger and more advanced than life which makes the story great. Story line holds true to the final outcome while injecting real life distractions to pump the interest. You can feel the moments as are executed in the story telling.

Stunning story.

Good story, I like that there wasn’t any faule language. Love George Guidall. One of the best narrators out there. No offense to you all Hick Hill lovers but I fall asleep to his narration. Anyways, if George continues to read these book, I’ll continue listening to this series.

George Guidall Rocks
