About this listen

What's a Siberian tiger doing in Alaska? And why did it become a man-eater? For State Fish and Wildlife Protection Officers Jake and Julie MacDonald, answering those questions is the least of their worries! Partners in life and on the job, the most dangerous thing they usually have to deal with was arresting heavily armed poachers in the middle of nowhere with no backup. But their latest assignment is something out of a horror movie: Stopping a man-eating tiger who is terrorizing a remote village. And, as usual, Jake and Julie are on their own.

Great idea, needs working on

The idea for the book is brilliant! But two things should be added/ changed in my opinion. One is completely leaving out the very promising plot of catching a wild tiger, black market for tigers, people involved in the crime of getting it to Alaska. The other one is really single minded view of the situation. True, everyone in man-eater's domain thinks about getting rid of the danger. But also true that these are extremely endangered animals because of people with no more than couple of hundred left. Making idiots of people who want to catch it and presenting it as a devil's incarnation (or almost) simplifies the story too much. Finally tigers actually have relatively poor sense of smell and they depend much more upon hearing. Giving more attention to tiger's struggle and less advantage to people (recognizing immediately the adversary, seeing it from plane upon arrival etc.) makes the story too predictable and didactic. It was still very good, but could have been much better.
