About this listen

“Did I just see a hot chick running down the road with a live chicken under her arm?”

Ash

Commitment is not my thing nor do I want it to be.

After the things I’ve been through with women, I have sworn off relationships.

There’s only ever been one woman that I thought I felt pulled to and I blew it. Not only was it the best date of my life, it was also the worst night of my life.

Since then, I have become a nail and bail kind of guy.

But then Sunday Sutton bursts back into my life, and ends up living with her son and their pet chicken across the hall from me.

There is no avoiding her or her radiant presence–everyone at the shop loves her, my sister loves her. Every time I open my mouth, I make it worse. But when I need a date to a wedding, Sunday is the only one that I can think I would want to be there with me.

In fact, she’s the only one I want to be with anywhere.

Sunday

Ash Johnson is unbelievable. He’s arrogant, conceited, self-absorbed and he’s everything I do not want in my life.

We had one night, years ago, and ever since he has been awful towards me. Well, I am sick of him and his nonsense. It doesn’t matter anyways, my son and I have a few more months until we are back home in Alabama.

But when I find myself living across the hall from him, I can’t help but be caught up in his charm.

Ash could be easy to love, if only he would let people in to see the real him, and not this shallow version of himself he projects.

Emotional and Honest

If there is one thing you can count on with Hel's Ink is that you will cry. Every time.

Ash and Sunday are the definition of right person, wrong time. But they keep finding their way back to each other.

Sunday is a single mom who works so hard to provide for her son and does not like to ask for help. Until it gets to a point that she has no choice. Which lands her next door to Ash, the one night stand that ended with him "Dash"ing out the door.

I really don't know how to give a review on this without touching on parts of the story that could be spoilers. So proceed at your own rish from here on out:

Ash has been abused. From childhood trauma to a bad relationship. His ex was a mentally abusive *insert bad word* and it has been a long time since there a character in a book I disliked more than her. She is vile and cruel and the worst kind of human. And she has left massive scars on Ash. Scars that society has told him he isn't allowed to have because he is a man. I LOVE that DJ chose this story and has shown that abuse and trauma come from so many different things. Men can be abused too.

Because of this Ash has terrible anxiety, suffers from crippling panic attacks and that is the reason he ran. He instantly felt a connection to Sunday and he didn't know how to handle it. He still doesn't.

Sunday, being a single mom struggling with her own health issues and trauma (siezures, past SA, DA) can't afford to be casual if she wants to protect her son but she can't stay away from him.

The red string of fate keeps pulling these two together and it is such a beautiful story.

The narration was top tier. Blue Nose produces the most wonderful Duet Narrations and Stella Bloom knocks it out of the park with all the female characters she needs to voice with different accents and different personalities. It was perfection.

Grayson Owens was superb and gave such a beautiful voice to Ash's pain.

I would change absolutely NOTHING about this book!

Loving this series

Ash Baby! I don’t like to have favorites but damn Ash just moved up the list and stole my heart. I love the way D.J. Krimmer writes her characters in the Hel’s Ink series. She continues to give us beautiful strong independent women fighting for their health and happiness as well as strong men who even with all the confidence they seem to exudes, are also struggling with inner demons. ASH by D.J. Krimmer follows Ash and Sunday, Ash is a tattoo artist at Hel’s Ink and after a one night stand gone wrong he runs out on Sunday and it’s safe to say, they are now not the best of friends. Now, desperate times call for desperate measures and months later, they are moving in together, fake dating and while Sunday raises her son, Wade, Ash begins to grow a sweet bond with him. Ash is set in his ways of being a bachelor and after the damage his ex left on his self esteem, Ash is not looking for any type of relationship unless it’s a fake one. As Sunday and Ash build a friendship and of course adding in some benefits their friendship lines begin to blur, but one thing about Ash, he’s determined that this friendship is all it can ever be. I fell hard for these characters, Sunday battling a scary seizure disorder, running from a toxic ex, trying to build her business all while raising her son, Wade, and Ash who even with his hard exterior, has a heart of gold, and the way he drops everything for Sunday, Wade, his sister and the Hel’s Ink crew, just proves that you never know what someone is going through.Grayson Owens and Stella Bloom narrate in duet and let me just say Stella’s southern twang, with her New York badass attitude is my new favorite Stella performance, she absolutely nailed Sunday’s character and with so many ups and downs she stayed true to herself and with the confidence in Stella’s voice she truly brought Sunday to life for me.Grayson also did a fantastic job as Ash. Showcasing his confident cocky self but as we slowly got through the layers of Ash, Grayson was able to voice so many expressions, hesitation of befriending anyone new, the inner self doubt Ash was struggling with and of course the cocky Ash we couldn’t help but love.

This series just gets better and better!!

Ash is the third book in DJ Krimmers Hel’s Ink series and follows Ash and Sunny. I have really loved getting to know these stories and characters of Hel’s Ink. We have seen glimpses of the grumpy Ash in the first two books but he was always the quiet and a bit mysterious one, seemingly not caring about anyone but his little sister. Sunday is trying to make the best life for her son and stay away from men after the ordeal with her ex husband (not the sons father). But its hard to look forward to your future, when your past seems to be always watching. I knew the women to that out Ash’s heart would have to be special, but I didn’t know it would be stealing a chicken for her son special. I am absolutely loving this series and the balance between comedy and drama with a dash of suspense thrown in. It seems to be ramping up with each book so I cant wait to see what the next one brings. I also love a hero who falls first and Ash definitely was the first one to fall, but how could he not? Sunday (Sunny to him ) is a women who has had everything thrown at her to bring her down, but she just keeps coming back with her head as high as possible. I understood her and her not wanting to ask for help from anyone, but in the end having to swallow her pride. And ooooooooh Boy for someone so quiet, Ash certainly knows how to use his voice in…certain circumstances. My favorite part was the quoting of the red string from Jane Eyre several times throughout, and the justice for orange Starbursts! I would highly recommend this to anyone who likes a little second chance, single parent and suspenseful story.

This was narrated by Stella Bloom and Grayson Owens in duet style, and this was the coupling I didn’t know I needed!!!! I have listened to both before, but something about they way they brought these characters to life really wowed me. I really need to listen to both of them more often. Stella was so perfect to play Sundays strong personality but yet have that underlying kind of tired and worried tone to it at the same time. Grayson’s tone was truly one of a protector like Ash, who just wants to fix everything for everyone he loves. Brilliant job on both parts, No Notes, 10/10.

Lovee

This book was soooo freaking cute. I love this world so much! The fact that it had epilepsy representation & also with me having a tween boy, it just really hit close to home for me. I was definitely tearing up in some parts and the story and characters were just written so beautifully!
10000% recommend.

The audio was fantastic. The narrators did an amazing job & brought the story to life!

A huge thanks to DJ Krimmer & Blue Nose audio for the review copy!

Love the whole series!

Seriously. Listen to all of the books in this series because you won’t be disappointed! I love that none of these characters are perfect- they’re all broken in some way and struggle with what life has handed them, but these are some of the strongest women!

Sunday is a feisty badass single mom struggling with epilepsy, but that doesn’t stop her from owning her own business or being a really good mom.

Ash is a survivor with his own very deep wounds. He tries to keep intimacy out of his life because he feels like he isn’t worthy of love, but he doesn’t really have a choice when it comes to Sunday and her son.

Normally, I can’t stand dumb breakups and just want people to communicate like adults, but I also can understand how anxiety can really keep you from what you really want in life.

The spice is good and the duet narration is fantastic!

WOW!!!

WOW!! I knew Ash's story would be fabulous - but had NO IDEA how fabulous it would be!!! Ash & Sunday both have Abusive Ex's that have royally screwed them up! Ash has excruciating Anxiety that almost caused him to lose Sunday, BUT through all the ups &  downs they persevere. Their story is beautiful & has an HEA!! The Narrators are Fabulous & DJ's writing is top notch!!!

Ash & Sunday are my favorite!!!

Narrated by Stella Bloom and Grayson Owens, I couldn't stop listening to this. Stella gives Sunday a southern twang that I loved and Grayson, well there is just something about his voice that always, always just sounds perfect. Both have voices that are extremely soothing and before I knew it the audio was over. The emotional scenes between these two and then the one particular scene with Ash and Wade....it truly shows the talent of narrators.

Ash and Sunday are my favorite couple from this series! I was not expecting him to sweep in and knock Atlas out of the way but that is exactly what happened and I am not ashamed to admit it.

Ash is a man of many talents...former paramedic, he loves and cares for his baby sister, a tattoo artist, loyal friend to those in his circle, and a known ladies man. One talent he does not have is being suave when anywhere near Sunday. Actually meeting several years prior and having a connection with her until a moment of panic set in and now he sees her regularly as she is friends with the lady loves of his buddies.

Sunday has been taking care of herself and her son, Wade, for so many years but it has finally come to the point she needs help. What she doesn't want is to end up living across the hall from Ash yet that is exactly where she ends up. It isn't long before he is there helping her and their friendship starts building with attraction close to the surface. Then there is the bond he forms with Wade, oh goodness I think that is part of what has me loving him so much.

As with other books in the series Sunday suffers from an illness but is one tough lady at the same time. It takes a bit for her to get used to Ash wanting to help her and do things for her. They are so good together and when Wade gets thrown in the mix readers/listeners get an adorable family. So many times I was frustrated at how aloof Ash could be but it wasn't long before he was back in my good graces with that heart of his. This is one MMC that isn't afraid to show his emotions either. Ms. Krimmer knows how to write the MMC in the best possible way and some very strong FMC. I am excited to see where the last two stories of the series take readers/listeners.
