About this listen

In Fiasco, Kentucky, there is one rule: never fall for a Foxx brother. Any woman who did, ended up dead—or so the rumor goes. Townies call it a curse. But I’ve lived it, and I won’t survive it again.

I’m not a cop anymore, but I’ve seen enough danger to know that Laney Young, the beautiful stranger who just showed up in my small town, is running from it. She’s lying about where she came from and what she’s doing here.

I don’t want her near my family or the quiet life I’ve made for myself. But my brothers have other plans. Now she’s everywhere–working at my distillery, living in our guest house, calling me ‘cowboy’ and skinny-dipping in my horse trough.

But it’s the way she dishes out attitude from that pretty mouth of hers that has me wanting things I’ve sworn to myself I’d never want again. I should push her away, forget how her lips taste, and ignore how she makes me want more out of life again.

When her past shows up and mingles too closely with mine, her lies begin to unravel. The rules don’t matter anymore. I mess up, dig too far, and get too close. Only two things have the power to keep her safe now: bourbon and lies.

Not your honey, cowboy.

Just when I thought I couldn’t love this book more… bam! Samantha and Connor come in and have me hooked from the start!

Laney has to leave her life behind to come to Fiasco. She needs to keep who she is a secret and lay low, but that proves difficult when she finds acceptance. Friendship. And a grumpy cowboy she can’t stop thinking about and who doesn’t stop thinking about her either.

I loved their meet cute and the tension. Connor is unsurprisingly perfect as Grant, in how mistrustful he is of her at first, how obsessed he becomes with her over time, in how he fantasizes about her. In how he wants to keep her safe. And I think he has single-handedly changed my mind about the “honey” pet name.
And Samantha… I swear, every time she called Grant “cowboy,” she had me grinning. When she said, “Not your honey, cowboy,” she embodied Laney’s strength and sass, and I seriously cannot think of anyone else who would be better for this role than her.

While staying at the ranch, Laney pushes all of Grant’s buttons without even trying. Their banter was top-notch. Their connection was even better. And when he starts romancing her by just being himself… Come on, Connor. That was not fair!
When the slow burn burns this hot, you know it’s going to be explosive. The bourbon scene. The kitchen scene when Laney shows she knows what she wants and “Drink up, honey.” Connor and Sam… I have no words.

I loved all the emotions that came through from them. How they shifted each other’s worlds upside down. How they both started really living when they first met. How they started trusting and loving each other—there was a sweetness there that sounded so good! And yes, duet was perfect because it pulled me in even more.

I need to mention the accents because I loved them so much. And, as always, how I could easily tell which character was talking, even though there are quite a few secondary characters in the book. Sheer talent, people.

Laney is one strong heroine, and that really shines through. And when her past catches up to her, Grant is there for her at every turn and unwilling to ever let her go, but she still saves herself. Just like Kathleen Turner (IYKYK).

Sweet and spicy, fun, and totally captivating with a hint of suspense… I loved this audiobook.

My favorite narrators and an amazing story

Small town, found family, forced proximity, and romantic suspense are some of my favorite tropes and Victoria writes them very well. Laney and Grant are amazing. Their banter, chemistry and slow burn will drive you mad! lol. Laney is so strong, feisty and a ray of sunshine while Grant is growly, protective and dreamy. I could not stop listening as the story pulled me in and I had to know what was going to happen next. Connor Crais and Samantha Brentmoor are two of my favorite narrators and I will listen to anything they narrate. Samantha has an amazing voice and the personality and emotion she gives the characters is fantastic! Connor’s voice…hot dang…is amazing - he also gives the characters perfect personality and emotion. A fantastic story with amazing narration. Highly recommend! Thank you Home Cooked Books for the advanced copy.

The story is very good.

The female narrator was so obnoxious with her voice singing a the end of every sentence.

Smooth Audio Treat!

Bourbon and Lies was my first book by Victoria Wilder, and I’m hooked! Grant Foxx jumped right to the top of my book boyfriend roster. I’m obsessed with his brothers and can’t wait to dive into each of their HEAs! Laney Young is a warmhearted, brassy, spitfire with secrets and a dangerous past closing in. Grant Foxx is a broody and gruff ex-cop who’s been drifting through the last five years, a shadow of himself. Victoria Wilder has penned a sultry love letter to bourbon woven into a film noir style romantic suspense story. Her characters are well-rounded and endearing. I loved this city girl/small town guy, found family, spicy romantic suspense. I love reading books with wacky and wonderful aunties and grandmothers, but a sage & spry grandfather character was just what my heart needed. Like a batch of Foxx Bourbon, this book is smooth, complex, and warms the heart.

Samantha Brentmoor was outstanding as the mysterious, alluring, kindhearted Laney. Samantha’s low, velvety timbre suited the world of the book and Laney perfectly. Connor Crais portrayed Grant’s growly, protective, I'll scorch the earth for the ones I love, grumpy with a heart of gold personality perfectly! Samantha and Connor are flawlessly matched in tone, storytelling styles, pace, and cadence. I loved the duet narration; these two brilliantly brought Victoria’s gritty, heartfelt, riveting love story to life. I cannot wait for more of this series!

Honey & Cowboy Forever!

Grant's stuck in the past after tragedy stuck 5 years prior when Laney, having entered WITSEC, lands herself in his small town of Fiasco, KY. After a saucy porch run in, Grant is enchanted by Laney yet is an absolute jerk to her in his attempt to keep his distance. What you'll love about Laney is that she gives even better than she gets. She's not his honey, but he sure is her cowboy.

Though the chemistry between Grant and Laney is sizzling, the slow burn was delicious and will definitely keep you yearning for more. When the fire between them does ignite, it's a full blown inferno.

The suspense and drama were intense and had me on the edge of my seat several times. I adored the family and friends and the connections they built. They protect their own and that's one of the many things you will love about this group. I have a feeling we're in for a lot more excitement from Fiasco and I'm on this ride until the end.

I went into this audiobook with very high expectations, and let me tell you, my expectations were blown out of the water. Conner Crais and Samantha Brentmoor were absolutely outstanding as Grant and Laney. Conner Crais nailed the grumpy southern drawl of Grant perfectly, and Samantha Brentmoor brought Laney's sass and feistiness to life in such a remarkable way that you can't help but love her fire. I was so invested in this story and all the characters from beginning to end. The phenomenal duet narration from two of the best to do it made me love this story even more.

Duet narration is all I can hear!

At first I thought that this book wasn’t worth the hype. And I was wrong. The book moves along just as fast as you want it to and the love story is wonderfully romantic. No third act break up 5 starts

12/10!!!

I’ve listened to 60 audio books this year and this by far is in my top 3 and one of the only ones I’ve felt compelled to review. I am DYING for the next one to get turned into an audio book. Both narrator’s were AMAZING! I hope these use the same for the other books. The storyline, spice, emotions, and family all made this book a masterpiece.

5/5 sweet as honey stars!

An already 5 star read that I could not WAIT to experience again in audio somehow got even better. Connor Crais and Samantha Brentmoor are 2 of the most elite narrators and this performance was a true and total KNOCKOUT. There’s just something about hearing some of your favorite characters being brought to life expertly. The way that they DELIVERED and left ZERO crumbs as Grant and Laney was everything I could have hoped for and then some.

I was beyond ecstatic to be back in Fiasco, this series and it’s complete and total CHOKEHOLD on me since I read it the first go round hasn’t lost its sparkle. If anything? This audio has just elevated it even more. These bourbon boys are truly something remarkable and this incredibly special cast of characters is can’t miss. I have shouted from the rooftops how insanely fabulous this series is for months now and I hope this audio gives it even more reach. If you haven’t made your way to Kentucky, you absolutely need to do it now. Let Samantha and Connor lead the way.

Grant Foxx and Laney Young are thrust into each others lives under circumstances beyond either of their control and as we watch both of their wounded souls become intertwined its literal magic. Zoltar magic. I love everything about this series, everything about these characters, everything about Victoria’s writing. These Foxx boys know EXACTLY what they’re doing. 5/5 sweet as honey stars.
