About this listen

In Fiasco, Kentucky, there is one rule: never fall for a Foxx brother. Any woman who did, ended up dead—or so the rumor goes. Townies call it a curse. But I’ve lived it, and I won’t survive it again.

I’m not a cop anymore, but I’ve seen enough danger to know that Laney Young, the beautiful stranger who just showed up in my small town, is running from it. She’s lying about where she came from and what she’s doing here.

I don’t want her near my family or the quiet life I’ve made for myself. But my brothers have other plans. Now she’s everywhere–working at my distillery, living in our guest house, calling me ‘cowboy’ and skinny-dipping in my horse trough.

But it’s the way she dishes out attitude from that pretty mouth of hers that has me wanting things I’ve sworn to myself I’d never want again. I should push her away, forget how her lips taste, and ignore how she makes me want more out of life again.

When her past shows up and mingles too closely with mine, her lies begin to unravel. The rules don’t matter anymore. I mess up, dig too far, and get too close. Only two things have the power to keep her safe now: bourbon and lies.

I liked this book. the storyline was good, the cowboy nickname was a bit cringy at times, it started to get on my nerves, I think the male narrator did an awesome job, didn't really care for the female narrator , almost everything she said sound like a question, idk , it was her voice as the fmc , didn't care for it, she was fine as the other female characters but not the fmc, Connor crais did an excellent job. I may continue with the next book up depending on the female narrator.

Good

Bourbon & Lies was a first for me with this author. I enjoy my romances with a side of suspense so this seemed right up my alley!

I was able to listen to an audio for review and with narrators Samantha Brentmoor & Connor Crais leading the way it was amazing! While it did take me a bit to fully engage in Laney & Grant's story once I was invested I needed to know how it would all play out. I'm also very interested in continuing with the rest of the series!

Great Audio!

The plot started slow but quickly picked up. The MCs, Laney and Grant, both have traumatic pasts and heal each other the more time they spend together. Laney is a sassy FMC with a good sense of humor and is self-aware of her flaws. Grant tries to stay away, only to fall first while protecting her. Overall, it was an entertaining small-town romance with suspense.

A small town, romantic suspense set in KY with bourbon and someone running for their lives. Grant and Laney are in a big forced proximity situation, with work and home. Grant falls hard and fast but fights it. Laney is just trying to breathe again. Really enjoyed the brothers and grumpy funny grandpa and small town.

Connor and Samantha saved this for me, the audio was super well done and enjoyed their voices/narration is spot on for the people. I also really enjoyed it was an actual duet. For me without the suspense and sexy KY type accent of Connor I might have just stopped and not come back. The last part is the best part. The first part needed better flow and plot. BUT if you like romance suspense, bourbon, KY, grumpy MMC then you will enjoy this.

Thank you to Home Cooked Books for this ALC.

southern romance suspense

I’ve been holding out on Bourbon and Lies until the audio was available, and wow— it was absolutely worth the wait!! It’s got all the good stuff: small-town drama, family secrets, a broody cowboy, and just the right amount of mystery to keep you guessing.

Connor Crais as Grant? Perfection. His voice is deep, a little rough, and exactly what you’d expect from a grumpy distillery owner with a past. And Samantha Brentmoor brings Laney to life so well—her attitude, her vulnerability, everything just hits right. Their chemistry? So good. Their banter? A+ quality. Their slow-burn? DE-LI-CIOUS.

The story itself kept me hooked. The town has this long-standing rumor about the Foxx brothers being cursed (women who fall for them don’t exactly have happy endings), and Laney shows up trying to outrun her own trouble. She and Grant butt heads from the start, but the slow-burn tension? Loved it. Plus, the suspense had me second-guessing everyone.

If you love audiobooks with great narration, a moody Southern setting, and a mix of romance and mystery, definitely check this one out. It’s a binge-worthy listen!

I'm obsessed with this book. First book by this author and I love her writing style. It's romantic suspense. Laney is in hiding and finds herself in Fiasco, Kentucky. She lies to everyone including Grant her true identity. Grant doesn't want her near his family, but his brothers have other plans. She starts working at the distillery and living at the guest house. She constantly gets Grant riled up. When her past shows up messing with Grant, Laney's secrets begin to unravel.

I adored Laney. I loved her attitude. I loved the witty banter with Grant. She always had a comeback for everything he said to her. I loved Grant so much. He surprised me in the best way. I loved his overprotectiveness and no nonsense attitude. He craved Laney and didn't want to act on his feelings. I loved the tension. It was so palpable. The sizzling chemistry was to die for. The spice is really good in this one as well. I loved the suspense elements and the pacing of the story was good. What a great start to a new series!

Most recently I listened to the audiobook and it's fantastic! Performed in duet by Connor Crais and Samantha Brentmoor. These two brought the characters to life and elevated the story. Connor conveyed Grant with a deep, gruff tone that exuded his broodiness. Samantha conveyed Laney with so much sass. I loved the banter in the book and it was great to listen to it. I felt the suspense was even more intense in the audio because of the narration. I was rooting for Grant and Laney all the way. Connor and Samantha give a captivating performance in this book. You don't want to miss it!
