About this listen

Dear Listener,

When I found myself experiencing a motherhood that I never expected, one that I was terrified of living, I didn't know how I would carry on being 'normal'. I didn't know how much I would long for people to say my son Teddy's name, to not treat him like he didn't exist. Maybe you're in this boat too, or maybe you want to support someone who is? Whatever your reason, I hope our story goes a little way to help.

Love, Elle

What do you do when the unthinkable happens? Elle Wright had an admittedly easy pregnancy - her scans went well, she and her baby were healthy throughout, and in May 2016, she and her husband welcomed their son, Teddy, into the world. Just a few hours after giving birth, they woke to find a nurse holding a cold and unresponsive Teddy, who had stopped breathing during the night. The happiest day of Elle's life had turned into every parent's worst nightmare, and she had to let her beautiful baby boy go. Three days after delivering him into the world, Elle sat with Teddy in her arms as he took his last breaths, and tucked him in for the final time. Ask Me His Name is a moving account of Elle's pregnancy, Teddy's life, and what happens when a mother leaves a hospital with empty arms. In the UK, one in four pregnancies ends in premature death, but conversations about the heartbreakingly frequent issue of baby loss are few and far between. In this honest, beautifully written and hopeful exploration of a different kind of mothering, Elle explores how she navigated a parenthood that no one had prepared her for.

Cathartic for a Loss Mama

This book made me laugh, made me cry, made me respond out loud in agreement at times. Definitely nice to hear such a positive take on baby loss. Missing my sweet Zarius a lot lately, and this was helpful!

As hard has it is, listen to this book

Did I cry during the entirety of this book? Yes, but it still made me feel more whole. If you have lost your child please give this a listen and you will feel like Elle is one of your friends and you are sharing the experience together. Thank you for sharing this story for Teddy. You and Teddy will live in my heart along with my son Connor.

Elle- My Hero

When I downloaded this book I was so scared to read the truth of that she was going to say. I lost my son 4 months ago and had no clue what I was getting into, since finally cracking the cover of the book I have read it three times. Elle is my cheerleader from across the sea. Never did I think a book could be so healing but with every page there was just a little bit more help. Thank you Elle, for speaking up and speaking out

Beautiful Story, very relatable

My Daughter Flora Sky was stillborn at 24 weeks. I miss her everyday. Everything Elle talked about was so relatable, even though we have very different stories. I’m so glad she shared this story.

captures so much

My second born, Élodie, lived four days. This book captures so many of the same things I've felt. It's not exactly the same experience of course, but some things about grief and love are universal. I think Teddy is proud of his mom for writing this book.

I loved the portion where the family members shared how the loss of teddy affected them.

An amazing book that I loved hearing after loosing my baby girl at 3 days old in the NICU, was so nice to be able to relate to someone’s pain and know I’m not alone in my feelings
