Wish I had read it sooner!

I am not a reader but after having trouble with the baby I decided to read this book. It could’ve saved me lots of trouble early on and now I’m looking forward to using the advice in this book for my next baby.

Helpful info! Try and read this early on

Try and read this in the couple weeks before bang arrives! And refer back in that 4th trimester!

Most info is still relevant to the times and the history woven throughout is really cool!

So Great

A wonderful help and very calming narrator for the whole family at bedtime. Very insightful and well written. I feel more confident having the knowledge and tools to soothe my baby. I can calm him in under a minute, preventing hysteria, now that I've mastered the 5 Ss to his particular taste, and it only took me a week of practice. Thank you so much.

Newborn Necessity

Husband and I were saved by this book. Read it, especially if you don’t have a lot of experience with newborns.

Very useful and methodical

I liked how methodical and organized the book is, providing clear steps and approaches for calming babies as well as real parents experiences. The Q&A part in each chapter and Y’s about the S’s is very useful.
I highly recommend to read it before baby arrives and to do like a small summary with 5S’s steps and how to apply them.

Useful information. Needs more inclusive language for parent roles.

2 things are true: (1) this book is a valuable resource for parents and uses a science based approach that everyone should know about. (2) this book could use an update on its gender and family structure language. Not only does it almost exclusively use cis-gendered, heterosexual couples as examples, but within that framework, it puts 80% of the focus on mothers’ roles rather than feeling equitable between both partners. At times it felt a little condescending when addressing mothers. Overall, having an updated sensitivity edit would make this book feel inclusive and accessible to all.
