Dr. Tom Picton
About this listen
A loveable rogue with an eye for the ladies is launched into a world of out-of-body experiences under the watchful eye of a tetchy dwarf with help from an agoraphobic neighbor and a rapper, and facing foes including a demon psychiatrist, evil landlord, and a god or two. Much bacon is eaten, beer drunk, and wisecracks uttered in this epic tale where true life meets fantasy.

Meet Rook. A middle-aged philosophy professor with a sarcastic sense of humour, an ongoing rivalry with his highly-strung colleague Jeremy, and a rocky relationship with his ex-wife. But he has far more pressing matters to attend to than domestic disputes and academic feuds. He moonlights as a private investigator. Armed with a quick, inquisitive mind, an arsenal of philosophic quotations and an addiction to fear, he is willing to embroil himself in any sticky situation which comes his way.

This is why his decision on this day - the decision to have three drinks - will change the life of bright young waitress Lisa Willoughby forever. It was no secret that journalist Jack Sparks had been researching the occult for his new book. No stranger to controversy, he'd already triggered a furious Twitter storm by mocking an exorcism he witnessed. Then there was that video: 40 seconds of chilling footage that Jack repeatedly claimed was not of his making, yet it was posted from his own YouTube account. Nobody knew what happened to Jack in the days that followed - until now.

Story
It all starts on New Year's Eve. A night that has to be a success, whatever the cost. For Joni and her friends, it'll be a party that promises all the high stakes and glamour of any other, but by sunrise, they'll be dealing with something darker than the usual post-party comedown. Not that they let this stand in their way. For this is their year to revel in all that the playground of London has to offer: sneaking into places they shouldn't, breaking every rule, falling in love with the wrong people. All the while avoiding one undeniable truth: it's not if the party ends, it's how.

Story
Kharon, the Boatman of Hell, has been doing his job since the dawn of time - and he is tired. As a demon, Kharon had always been feared by the souls as he ferried them to their afterlives. But, not anymore. The world has changed, and the mortal souls he now encounters are self-entitled jerks. Instead of cowering, and asking why they are in Hell, they argue, and they demand to see his manager or a lawyer. This human behavior alone has Kharon dreaming of retirement; leaving his boatman role to be carried on by his last living heir.

I watched in horror as dark magic sprang from my hand faster than an imp after your socks. I didn't know my name, let alone that I had such power. The man was dead. I panicked. I ran. How was I to know I was a dark magic enforcer, tasked with keeping magic hidden from the world? Yeah, total noob move, I know. But my memory is returning, and the Hidden have given me 24 hours to make amends. Cover it up. Finish the job I was given, or else. Failure isn't an option.
