About this listen

Atheist Yoga makes the case for yoga's total compatibility with atheism, while simultaneously offering an in-depth explanation of advanced yoga techniques. It takes a close look at the full spectrum of yoga methodology and explains how to really advance your practice to higher levels of expertise, delving deeply into hatha yoga, pranayama, and meditation while thoroughly exploring esoteric subjects such as Kundalini, tantra, sexual yoga, kumbhaka, pratyahara, and yogic trance in sensible and easy to understand practical terms. From a starting point of realism and scientific materialism, it begins to decode and illuminate the ancient secrets of yoga in a way that listeners will find highly accessible and enjoyable on multiple levels, while delving into the deep unconscious symbolism of Kundalini and the chakras and describing many highly effective and little-known "left hand path" techniques of meditation, yogic trance, sensory withdrawal, concentration, and yogic sex. Through it all, Atheist Yoga makes the case that yoga and meditation are much easier and far more genuine when the fuzzy idea of a Supreme Being no longer separates the meditator from his or her own individual self.

Good content, Poor delivery

The narrator for this audiobook made it very difficult to follow. I would suggest the book to any that are interested in it, but don’t buy this audiobook. Fairly disappointed in the narration.

Interesting

Would you listen to Atheist Yoga again? Why?

Yes, I feel that it's a valuable reference.

What was the most compelling aspect of this narrative?

He switches between his conversational voicing of the characters in the interactive parts of the story, to the lectural news-caster-y voice he uses for the factual parts, quite easily.

Which scene was your favorite?

The scene where the woman first shows up. It was almost funny, and definitely strange.

What’s the most interesting tidbit you’ve picked up from this book?

The Atheist non-theology, and Freudian quotes. Some interesting information supporting materialism.

Any additional comments?

This was an interesting philosophical work.

Great book!

People often ask how a Godless person like me goes to yoga class. this book has helped me to explain it to myself and to others.

A fascinating and educational look into yoga...

I received this audio book as a gift in exchange for a honest and unbiased review. This
book is quite educational. I always thought yoga was a form of exercise. I is also about
religion, health, sex, and can replace medication. Yoga helps you sleep too. Along with
yoga is meditation. meditation relives stress and benefits us in so many ways. This book
explores the close compatibility between atheist and yoga. This book has opened my eyes
and taught me so much. I think I need to listen to it a few more times to absorb
everything it has to say. I found the parts about making orgasms better and longer most
fascinating too!

The author, Anton Drake did a great job on his research for this book. The lengths one
has to go to, to actually explore and experience all of this so he can write a book is
just awesome! The author wrote this in such a way, that I found it to be very interesting,
which really surprised me! The narrator, Jack Chekijian did a great job once again with
his clear and flawless voice and pronunciation of words I can't even repeat after
hearing. Kudos to both of you for a job well done!

Super interesting!

If you could sum up Atheist Yoga in three words, what would they be?

Provocative yet true

What was the most compelling aspect of this narrative?

I've never heard about the approach that the author took here - it was very refreshing and eye opening.

Have you listened to any of Jack Chekijian’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, I didn't but I certainly will in the future.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

A whole new approach to Yoga!

Any additional comments?

I'd Highly Recommend it to any Yoga practitioner.

very informative

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I feel the information in this book came from reliable study's. Because of the seeming true behind it. I would recommend this book

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

The book was a little hard to keep up with, i feel didn't know a lot of the yoga styles they where talking about and it made it hard to really keep up with the mix matching of different styles.

What does Jack Chekijian bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

i feel like the voice was slowed down, i did like that it was slowed but when i increased the speed to 1.25 it felt like he was talking to me more natural like.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

It took me two sittings to listen to the whole book. Its a lot of information to take all at once.

Yoga with a side order of atheist proselytizing

If you bought this book to learn more about yoga, be prepared for frequent interruptions by the atheist missionary. Quite annoying to be pestered by so much proselytizing in a text which does, indeed, provide much useful information regarding various practices of yoga and meditation. While I usually prefer audio books (and this narrator excels in interpreting nonfiction), this is one book best seen, so as to do the mental editing of that which is boring to the reader with greater ease.

Interesting Read on Yoga and Atheism

What made the experience of listening to Atheist Yoga the most enjoyable?

I have always relate yoga to health, balance and relaxation exercises and never much to religions or spiritual developments. Yet is is great to hear how the author explains n eye opener audio book for me as the author attempts to explain yoga's total compatibility with atheist living.

What was the most compelling aspect of this narrative?

The in-depth explanation of advanced yoga techniques is very compelling although I still prefer to have visual materials to correlate to. But as an audio book, I can always listen to it while on the audio and strengthen the concepts.

Which scene was your favorite?

There are 2 chapters on sex and yoga which are interesting. Certainly strengthen my belief that yoga is good :).

If you could give Atheist Yoga a new subtitle, what would it be?

Let continue to do yoga.

Any additional comments?

I wish the narrator has more infection and emotions in his narration.

Terrible reader.

I am not sure a worse reader could be found. The reader puts strange emphasis on words. This reader almost sounds like a machine reader. There is also a weird whistling artifact that shows up in certain reading patterns.

It is very tough to review the content when attempting to overcome such an awful presentation.
