About this listen

Ladies,

I know how things look from the outside. I'm rich. I'm a successful surgeon. I'm handsome. I should have women lining up from here to New Jersey clawing for space in my bed, but there's one huge catch: I'm f*cking awkward.

Every time I get a date, I spoil it. Asked if she's pregnant? Check. Forgot her name? Check. Bought a meat lover's pizza for my vegan girlfriend? Check, check, check.

This is why my best friend, romance fanatic Allie Jenkins, has declared that she's swooping in to save the day. She's prepared a list of required reading straight from The Ripped Bodice, and I'm supposed to take notes, learn from the best, and put that shit into action. After all, practice makes perfect, right?

Wrong.

Witty, charming, heartfelt and entertaining friends to lovers romance. Jack and Allie are adorable together as friends but when their friendships leads to more; they are smoking hot. I enjoyed going on this cute journey with them. Fun story!

Love Jack, but Allie tested my last nerve.
Overall a good story. Although, there were times when I had to stop listening because Allie was too much.

Allie is clueless

Omg! It was driving me crazy how Ally was being so dense and didn’t see what was in front of her. Such a sweet sweet love story for the ages that had me swoooooning. Give me an awkward man any day!

Screaming I loved this story!

I enjoyed the story although it was predictable. Performance was good but the female narration was difficult to hear when she imitated a male voice. I often had to rewind and turn it up.

Good read but Predictable

This story was a cat and mouse chase for hours. I should have stop listening the first hour. I just wanted it to get better. But it didn’t

Very frustrating

The story concept was great but Allie wavered between dumb and rude through the whole story. It just wasn’t realistic. A normal guy wouldn’t pine for someone like that for years and years.

Narrators were perfect.

I really liked the first 2/3 of this story. The friendship and unrequited love between Jack and Allie were sweet. Unfortunately, there was not enough follow through on the premise.

The idea that Jack is this AWKWARD—albeit swoony— doctor who is unlucky in love is not even really explored or relevant. It was just an insignificant mechanism to begin this “romance academy” that never pays off because it’s forgotten halfway through. It’s as if the author forgot what the premise was and never found her way back to it.

The whole conflict with Jack’s mom is just so trite and unrealistic, I found it hard to believe this was a real obstacle they faced as a couple. Not to mention the fact that Allie’s hesitance to commit at the climax of the story when Jack finally declared his feelings felt manufactured and like it came out of nowhere. There was no shortage of miscommunication between these two throughout, and eventually it all just seemed to exist just to prolong the conflict and extend the page count.

We are told throughout that there were some unreciprocated declarations between these two pre-book timeline (Allie apparently asked Jack out on a date years prior and he said no?)… and this is NEVER explained or resolved.

It all just felt unfinished, which is a shame because there were some lovely moments that got overshadowed by the things that didn’t work.

50% loved, with a some significant issues.
